Two armed robbers were shot dead on Tuesday afternoon, January 17, following a fierce shootout between officers based at Njiru in Nairobi and three armed gangsters who were on a robbery mission.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) narrated on Thursday, January 19 that the hawk-eyed officers who were on routine patrol along Kangudo road in an unmarked vehicle, had noticed a suspicious motorbike in the Shujaa area whose pillion passengers were stalking their next victim.

They immediately intercepted the bike at a petrol station and the officer in charge asked the suspects to identify themselves.

"Nyinyi ni nani (who are you)? he asked. But the defiant trio answered with gunfire, provoking a shootout that sent two of them back to their creator instantly.

"Sounds of deafening gunfire reverberated across the plains, rat-a-tat-tat-tat!!! as the determined undercover officers silenced the armed thugs," stated the DCI in part.

The shootout was followed by the groaning vroooom sound of a speeding motorbike flying past the dusty town, as the third suspect shifted gears in quick succession to save himself from the hail of terrifying government ammo.

With two of the robbers gunned down and a firearm recovered, the officers called off the chase.

Upon closer examination of the firearm serial number KE-AP G0857 loaded with three rounds of 9mm calibre, it was discovered that the Ceska pistol had been snatched from a senior officer within Embakasi police station mid-last December.

Crime scene detectives later processed the scene and recovered the relevant exhibits, before moving the bodies of the slain duo to the City mortuary.

On Tuesday, January 10, a robbery with violence suspect is currently in custody at Kitale police station after he was arrested by police officers on patrol following a robbery incident.

According to the DCI, Dan Muiruri, 27, who was dressed in a police smoke jacket was in a group of five men who had attacked a man walking home on Monday night, January 9 and robbed him of his mobile phone and other valuables.

The victim of the crime reported the incident to police officers on patrol who immediately launched a manhunt for the suspects.

An hour later, the suspect who was dressed in police fatigues was arrested and the victim’s mobile phone was recovered. Also recovered were a kitchen knife and 17 rolls of weed.
