A survey carried out by Infotrak Research and Consulting revealed on Thursday, February 22 that Cape Media Limited's TV47 and Radio 47 stations enjoy significant popularity among residents in the Coast and North Eastern regions.

Radio 47, which was launched in March 2023 and which went on a poaching spree of journalists and presenters from rival media houses, was most favoured amongst 22 per cent of residents in the Coast region in terms of top of awareness, the most out of all of Kenya's radio stations.

8 per cent of residents living in the Eastern and Nairobi regions mentioned Radio 47 as the station that was at the top of their minds.

In terms of radio stations currently listened to, by region, Radio 47 enjoyed most of its listenership from North Eastern at 32 per cent, followed by Coast at 22 per cent, Eastern at 13 per cent, Rift Valley at 11 per cent and Western and Nairobi at 10 per cent.

Overall, the station enjoyed an approval rating of 9 per cent in total awareness, behind only Radio Citizen (16 per cent), Radio Jambo (15 per cent) and Classic 105 (10 per cent).

For total awareness, Radio 47 tied with Radio Maisha at 20 per cent but was ranked behind Radio Citizen at 26 per cent and Radio Jambo at 24 per cent.

TV47

As of TV, 32 per cent of viewers indicated that they have ever watched TV47, a fast-growing TV station mentioned by 25 per cent of others in other disciplines.

15 per cent were revealed to be currently watching the station, more than the traditional players such as KBC and KTN News.

Regionally, 32 per cent of North Eastern residents revealed that they were aware of TV47, more than the country's biggest TV station, Citizen TV.

This was followed by 31 per cent who lived in Eastern, 30 per cent in Nairobi, 24 per cent in Rift Valley and 22 per cent in Central.

"TV47 polled 5th on unaided awareness with 25%, NTV awareness was at 65% followed closely by KTN at 61%," read the report in part.

The survey, conducted between January 27 and 29, 2024, ranked TV47 (15 per cent) below only Citizen TV (81 per cent), NTV (28 per cent) and KTN (19 per cent) overall.

Covering all the 47 counties and enjoying a 97 per cent response rate, the survey showed that the highest age group watching TV47 was between 18-26.

Launched in 2019, TV47 has seen tremendous growth in its audience and influence over the years, thanks to unique content and programming, in the spirit of its motto - 'The Home of Untold Stories'.

Both TV47 and Radio 47 made headlines owing to the tremendous number of high-wattage recruitments in terms of journalists in a bid to dethrone established players such as the Nation Media Group (NMG), Standard Group Limited and even the Royal Media Services (RMS).
