The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has announced that registration for the Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA) and the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) 2024 candidates will commence on January 29, 2024.

Speaking at Moi Girls High School in Eldoret on Monday, January 8, 2024, ahead of the release of the 2023 KCSE results, KNEC CEO Dr David Njeng'ere revealed that the registration process will conclude on March 29, 2024, meaning candidates will have two months to register for the exams.

"The registration of 2024 KPSEA and KCSE will begin on the 29th of and it is going to run for two months up to the 29th of March.

"So we want to appeal to all school principals to please make sure that all eligible candidates are registered within that period of two months," Njeng'ere explained.

The KNEC boss added that two months was a sustainable period for all candidates to register, noting that there will be no extensions once the registration period expires.

"Two months is adequate to register all candidates. There will be no late registration. We are not going to extend the registration period even by a day," he added.

Njeng'ere spoke in Eldoret before the release of the 2023 KCSE results by Education Cabinet Secretary (CS) Ezekiel Machogu, the first time the results were released in Uasin Gishu County and a rare occurrence given that for many years, the results have been released in Nairobi.

KPSEA, a Grade 6 test under the new education curriculum system, the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC), is designed for pupils to graduate to Junior Secondary School (JSS).

Meanwhile, CS Machogu announced on Monday that the results of the 2023 KPSEA would be released in two weeks.

He further called upon teachers and parents to use the released KPSEA results to track the progress of the learners.

“The KCSE Examination will be followed by the release of KPSEA reports for candidates who sat the Grade 6 assessment in 2023 in the next 2 weeks,” Machogu stated.

“I urge all parents, and teachers to scrutinise the KPSEA reports to ensure they use the results to monitor learner progress."

1.2 million students sat for the KPSEA examinations in 2023, which commenced on October 30, 2023, and ended on November 1, 2023.

The new exams from 2024 will replace the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE), marking the end of the four-decade 8-4-4 syllabus at the primary school level.

The new KPSEA exams will see candidates answer 30 questions down from the usual 50.

The English language and Mathematics papers were tackled on the first day, followed by Integrated Science and Kiswahili on the second day.

Art and Craft, Music, and Religious Education in the Creative Art and Social Studies subject will be done on the last day.
