“It is with deep regret that we inform you of the demise of one of our staff during an incident that happened at our Times Tower offices this afternoon,” the Authority said.

“Unfortunately, the staff succumbed to injuries while being attended to by the medical personnel. KRA remains committed to the health and safety of its staff and is saddened by this unfortunate occurrence.”

KRA, while condoling with the bereaved family, added that the incident was under investigation by law enforcement agencies.

The incident was a dark reminder of a 2018 occurrence whereby a senior employee at Pricewaterhouse Coopers (PwC) died after jumping from his 17th floor office in Westlands, Nairobi.

Authorities said the international audit firm’s executory and forensic investigations assistant manager Stephen Mumbo landed on the balcony of the second floor of the building and was pronounced dead on arrival at the Aga Khan Hospital.

“Our collective grief and sense of loss at this time is profound, but it cannot compare to what his family must be feeling.

"Our hearts and prayers go out to them. This is a big blow to the PwC family,” mourned Peter Ngahu, a regional senior partner, at the time.

Ibrahim Juma, who witnessed the incident, had revealed that he heard a loud scream as the man came down before landing on the balcony. It was then that people rushed and helped him up before rushing him to hospital.

Workplace stress is the harmful physical and emotional responses that can happen when there is a conflict between job demands on the employee and the amount of control an employee has over meeting these demands.

In general, the combination of high demands in a job and a low amount of control over the situation can lead to stress.

Stress in the workplace can have many origins or come from one single event. It can impact on both employees and employers alike.

It is generally believed that some stress is okay (sometimes referred to as “challenge” or “positive stress”) but when stress occurs in amounts that one cannot handle, both mental and physical changes may occur.

Counsellors, medics, and psychologists advise that you can always reach out for help when experiencing any mental health issues. Call Kenya Red Cross toll-free hotline, 1199, for support.
