Police have demanded that the chairman of Zuri Sacco, a matatu sacco plying Thika Road routes that include Zimmerman and Kahawa West, surrenders one of their vehicles whose driver caused an accident along Thika Road on Tuesday evening, December 5.

The saga saw Tony Mukere, a Kenyan digital journalist, chase down the matatu driver who was attempting to escape after hitting his car and speeding off near Alsopps along the busy highway.

Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Mukere further believed that the driver was under the influence. Nonetheless, he flagged the driver down who in response dared him to escalate the matter with the authorities.

"This Zuri sacco matatu just hit my car near Alsopps and fled. I gave chase and caught up with it, the seemingly drunk driver told me to go report to the chief and left off again," he stated.

Speaking to Viral Tea, Mukere revealed that he reported the matter to the police, underscoring that the dent wasn't major.

"I reported it this morning and the police have asked the Sacco chairman to surrender that vehicle," he revealed.

He explained to this media house that he was prompted to take action against the matatu driver to safeguard other motorists who may be affected by the same, hence his move to expose him on X.

"It wasn't a major dent but I felt I had a civic duty to protect other motorists or pedestrians who may be hurt by the same drunk/reckless driver," he weighed in.

Notably, this accident bears similarities to one that Viral Tea reported, which occurred along the busy Waiyaki Way involving the driver of a private vehicle who was allegedly under the influence who rammed into another motorist from behind.

Kevin Theuri released a 50-second video drawn from footage of his vehicle's onboard camera showing him driving as per usual along the fast lane prior to slowing down while approaching a rumble strip.

Behind him was a clear road, however, as he was approaching the rumble strip, the other motorist in a red Mazda registered as KCU 231T approached him at a high speed and smashed into him.

Theuri lamented that the driver sped off unbothered and threw insults at him, further claiming that the aggressor was drunk.

Upon inquiry from a concerned Kenyan, Theuri revealed that he managed to get the driver's details from the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) portal, possibly with the view of escalating the matter with the authorities.

Photos seen by Viral Tea showed the Mazda's front bumper extensively damaged and its bonnet deformed.

The incident added to cases of city drivers being exposed for reckless driving habits which have led to serious accidents along Nairobi roads and other roads across the country.
