MP's Alleged Proposal Of Wife Picked By Ruto As PS Sparks Uproar
Nyawira has been nominated as PS to the Ministry of Interior – State Department for Correctional Services.
A Member of Parliament (MP)'s alleged nomination of Caroline Nyawira to a Principal Secretary (PS) role in Kirinyaga County threatens to derail her vetting and approval process in the same capacity after being nominated by President William Ruto.
Reports reaching Viral Tea's newsdesk reveal that the lawmaker, George Kariuki, nominated Nyawira, his wife, for the Kirinyaga County job.
She has been nominated as PS to the Ministry of Interior – State Department for Correctional Services.
A poster seen by Viral Tea and circulated across social media platforms revealed that Nyawira is one of three from Kariuki's family line nominated to highly coveted positions in Kirinyaga County.

One of his sisters was nominated a Member of the County Assembly (MCA) in the county while the other was nominated in Kiambu in the same capacity.
Nyawira's nomination has sparked uproar on Twitter with users coming out to criticise the developments.
"It's clear that we won't allow such things to happen again and this position could have been given to the people of Kirinyaga," an aggrieved Njagi wrote.
"How can this even happen they should have considered at least one person," Sarah added.
Others urged the President to recall the name of Nyawira allegedly proposed by the MP for the PS job.
She was one of 12 women nominated by the President for the PS job ahead of vetting and appointment, making up 23.5 per cent of the nominees.
The PS is one of the state's key top public servants, helping Cabinet Secretaries in delivering government services to Kenyans.
During his campaigns, Ruto promised that women would play a key part in his administration. His Cabinet consists of seven women out of 24 appointees, far from his May 2022 promise of including 11 women in the Cabinet.
The women nominated as PSs include:
- Teresia Mbaika Malokwe (Devolution)
- Esther Ngero (Performance and Delivery management)
- Aurelia Rono (Parliamentary Affairs)
- Caroline Nyawira Murage (Correctional Services).
- Roseline Njogu (State Department for Diaspora)
- Veronica Mueni Nduva (State Department for Gender and Affirmative Action).
- Dr Josephine Mburu (Public Health)
- Esther Thaara Muhorias (TVETs)
- Beatrice Inyangala (Higher Education and Research)
- Susan Mangeni (MSMEs Development)
- Sylvia Naseya Muhoro (Wildlife)
