Pamella Sittoni To Leave Nation Media Group After 12 Years

Pamella Makotsi Sittoni has announced that she will leave the Nation Media Group (NMG) at the end of this month of June.

In her farewell message to colleagues and seen by Viral Tea, Sittoni, NMG’s Group Managing Editor, appreciated her 12-year stint at the Twin Towers which has supplemented her career in the media and communications space.

"At the end of this month, I will respectfully, and with a heart full of gratitude, step out of Nation Media Group after a long and extremely rewarding 12-year (second) stint here. To say it has been an awesome journey is an understatement," she wrote.

"I have indeed had a phenomenal career in media and communications. I have experienced unmatched favour from God, successive supervisors and CEOs, and colleagues at every point in my working life."

Sittoni recounted when she first walked into Nation Centre in July 1992 as an intern from the University of Nairobi’s School of Journalism, armed with nothing other than a burning aspiration to work as a journalist.

Since then, she has worked in several roles; as a correspondent, a reporter, a sub-editor, an assistant deputy chief sub-editor, a chief sub-editor, Managing Editor of The East African, Executive Editor and Managing Editor of Daily Nation, Executive Editor, Partnerships, and finally Group Managing Editor, titles she remarked were well beyond her wildest imagination.

She thanked all those who opened doors for her, who held her hand, taught her the ropes, and guided as well as corrected her, wishing that "I pray that they will all receive their reward here on earth."

"Most important are you my colleagues, who have been a part of my journey. I couldn’t ask for better comrades in the daily battle we have waged to make the world a better place through our journalism. We’ve had exciting times, great days and some sad moments.

"We’ve done amazing journalism: produced excellent, life-defining content, written memorable headlines, created important publications and programmes, and organised major events, as we pursued our mission of transforming society positively," she added.

Sittoni recounted her teamwork beyond the editorial department with colleagues across the company to make great things happen, making her grow from a journalist to a leader.

"It is impossible to summarise everything in a simple farewell note. I hope God will grant me an opportunity to document these experiences. I have made lifelong friends, nay, sisters, brothers, and lately, daughters and sons here. You’ve cheered me on, you’ve lifted me when I was down, and you’ve made me look good. I’ll treasure every conversation, shared moment, advice, meal, drink, gift and, of course, argument and professional fight.

"I have nothing but gratitude as I sign out. I wish you well and urge you to keep up the exceptional work. NMG is the true home of excellent journalism. Keep it that way and you MUST ensure the lights stay on," she concluded.

Sittoni Outside Achievements

In October 2023, Sittoni joined the Thomson Foundation Board of Trustees. Speaking after her admission to the Board of Trustees, she remarked that she was humbled and honoured by the appointment.
