Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya (70%) and Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga (70%) have been named the best-performing governors in the country.

This is according to a report released on Tuesday, October 31 by Infotrak Research and Consulting which sought to determine the performance rating of the top 25 governors out of the 47 in place in Kenya.

Turkana Governor Jeremiah Lomorukai and Makueni Governor Mutula Kilonzo Junior tied in sixth and seventh place with a performance score of 64 per cent.

Following them was Elgeyo Marakwet Governor Wesley Rotich in eighth place together with Embattled Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza and Kitui Governor Julius Malombe all with a score of 63 percent.

The survey dubbed County Track Survey was conducted between July to September with a sample of 58,748 people from all 47 counties.

It also displayed the ranking of the most-improved governors with the first-time governors doing better than their second-term counterparts. Governor Gladys Wanga moved from position 45 to position 1 while her Trans Nzoia Counterpart George Natembeya rose from number 42 to number 1.

Meru Governor, Kawira Mwangaza moved from 38 to 8 in the rankings, despite her facing impeachment subject to debate by the Senate.

John Lati of Samburu followed in fourth having improved from 48 to 17, while Governor Julius Malombe of Kitui rounded up the five most improved after moving from 29 to 8.

In terms of regions, Governor Natembeya tops the Rift Valley region with Wanga and Ken Lusaka (Bungoma) leading the Nyanza and Western Regions respectively.

Abdulswamad Nassir (Mombasa) leads in the Coast region, Governor Kanga’ta in the Central region, and Kilonzo in the Eastern region.

Governor Johnson Sakaja and Governor Mohamed Khalif (Mandera) lead Nairobi and North Eastern regions respectively.

The performance of the governors spanning various sectors was attributed to projects launched by counties including in the health sector.
