Kirinyaga Woman Representative Njeri Maina on Wednesday, October 2 revealed that she was summoned by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to shed light on allegations of planning to mobilise goons to cause chaos during a public participation exercise on Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua's impeachment motion.

Taking to her social media handles, the lawmaker revealed that she was summoned to appear at Kerugoya DCI offices at 10 am on Thursday, October 3.

As per the text message, Investigator Abraham Mugambi asked Njeri to appear at the DCIO Kirinyaga office. However, Njeri described the summons as a witchhunt meant to intimidate her because of being a diehard supporter of DP Gachagua.

"Surely, the more things change, the more they remain the same. Governments for you," she stated.

“Good evening Muheshimiwa, there are serious allegations against you that you are mobilising goons to cause chaos on Friday during public participation on DP impeachment motion. It is in this regard you are invited to appear at the CCIO Kirinyaga office tomorrow the 3/10/2024 at 1000hrs to send light on this allegation," read the message.

Public participation to impeach Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua will be held at Kirinyaga Central Constituency NGCDF offices on Friday, October 4.

Njeri stood firm by stating “I will continue telling the people of Kirinyaga to come out in large numbers on Friday and express their constitutional right on Friday."

291 Members of Parliament signed a motion to impeach Rigathi Gachagua as the Deputy President accusing him of 11 accounts, the motion being fronted by Kibwezi West MP Mwengi Mutuse, surpassing the 117 threshold needed to impeach a Deputy president.

Gachagua has been accused of using his two sons, to allegedly, massively launder money, conceal proceeds of crime, corruption, and benefit from influence peddling.

Other grounds for impeachment include; going against the oath of office, violating the National Cohesion and Integration Act, amassing property illegally, and misleading the public on critical matters.

Kenyans in all 47 counties will be expected to table their opinions on the ouster of the Deputy President on October 4. National Assembly Speaker, Moses Wetangula announced that public participation is expected to be concluded at that date.
