The late former Prime Minister, Raila Odinga will be laid to rest on Sunday, October 19, 2025.

Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has released the full schedule for Odinga’s funeral, outlining a tightly coordinated state plan in line with Odinga’s wish to be buried within 72 hours of his death.

According to Kindiki, Odinga’s body will arrive in Mumbai at 1:00 AM on Thursday, October 16, before departing an hour later for Nairobi.

The aircraft carrying his remains is expected to land at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) at 8:30 AM, where President William Ruto and senior government officials will receive it. From there, the body will be transferred to Lee Funeral Home by 10:00 AM, followed by a state procession to Parliament at noon.

A public viewing of the body will take place at Parliament Buildings from 12:00 PM to 5:00 PM on Thursday. The State Funeral service is scheduled for Friday, October 17 at the Nyayo National Stadium, where national leaders, dignitaries, and citizens will gather to pay their last respects.

On Saturday, October 18, Odinga’s remains will be transported in a grand procession to Kisumu and later to his rural home in Bondo. The public will have an opportunity to view the body in Kisumu before it proceeds to Bondo for an overnight vigil.

The burial will take place on Sunday, October 19 at the family homestead in Kango Ka Jaramogi, Nyamira, Bondo, where Odinga will be laid to rest beside his father, Jaramogi Oginga Odinga, and his son, Fidel.

Kindiki announced the plans on Wednesday night, October 15 after chairing the National State Funeral Committee formed earlier in the day by President Ruto.

The committee, co-chaired by Kindiki and Siaya Senator Oburu Odinga, was tasked with overseeing all aspects of the funeral arrangements.

Odinga, 80, passed away on Wednesday, October 15, 2025, while receiving treatment in Kochi, India. He reportedly suffered a cardiac arrest at an Ayurvedic facility, where doctors attempted CPR before transferring him to Devamatha Hospital in Koothattukulam. He was pronounced dead at around 9:52 AM Indian time.

President Ruto, while addressing the nation from State House on Wednesday afternoon, confirmed the formation of the funeral committee, emphasizing that the government would ensure Odinga receives full state honors befitting his legacy as a national leader.
