Billy Mwangi, one of the five victims found alive after allegedly being abducted, is advising Kenyans on X to be careful of a number of accounts posting under his name, denying any links to them.

Mwangi, an Embu resident who was reunited with his family on Monday, January 6, appeared in a video on Tuesday, January 7 clarifying the matter by stating that he had not been on the platform since he resurfaced.

According to him, the abductors had taken away his phone, thus losing access to his account. "This is Billy Mwangi. Those guys who are using my Twitter accounts and parodies are not me."

"I am not on Twitter. Mine was hacked and they took my phone. In case of anything, I will update you guys in due course," he linked the tweets to an impostor.

Nonetheless, Mwangi went on to thank his X comrades and Embu residents for the support extended to him during his capture. "To my Twitter family, I love you so much. To all comrades from Nairobi to Embu, thank you so much," he said.

Prior to his abduction, Mwangi had been using an X account under the handle @Psychosins. The account disappeared just a few hours after he was forcefully abducted and bundled into a waiting car.

Soon after he was released, several X accounts purporting to be him popped up - one goes by the handle @BillyMwangi_1 and boasts a decent 9,000+ followers. In one of the tweets shared 17 hours ago, the user wrote: "I will never use the name psychosins again in my lifetime it has caused me a lot! APOLOGIES FAM."

Narrating his ordeal, the avid social media user who was with his parents revealed that his mental state was yet to fully recover from the ordeal, despite receiving medical attention.

According to Mwangi, he was not able to speak on the conditions of where he was held because he was still recovering psychologically.

"Even though they shaved me, I'm back and healthy and still recovering slowly," he said. "I'm still not OK mentally but I'll will be fine."

Asked whether he was being fed while in captivity, Mwangi revealed he could not describe his meals since the situation he was in was not conducive. "I can't speak on the food because the situation was not conducive for me. I'm still taking drugs recommended by the doctor. I'm tortured psychologically."

He further vowed to forgive those who reportedly abducted him, stating that he has forgotten all that happened and he leaves everything to God.

"I thank God for my family, Embu residents and X family, those who abducted and put me in that situation. My parents know that I do not have a criminal record, I want to forgive them, and I leave them to God. Human is to error," he added.

Billy Mwangi disappeared on Saturday, December 21, 2024, in Embu Town. He was at a barbershop waiting to get a haircut, when four hooded men burst in and forcibly abducted him.

Witnesses reported that the men mishandled Mwangi before bundling him into a vehicle and driving off. His father, who was devastated by the incident, immediately reported the matter to the authorities. For weeks, the family lived in anguish, with no word about his whereabouts, until his resurfacing on Monday.

Mwangi, Peter Muteti, Benard Kavuli, Kibet Bull and his brother Ronny Kiplangat were found alive following pressure from social media users, some leaders and activists.

Also on Monday, Manyatta Member of Parliament (MP) Gitonga Mukunji revealed that preliminary reports suggested that the young man was whipped during his detention and held in a room where he could not make out where exactly he was, an ordeal that left him traumatised.
