Four young Kenyans who were abducted in December 2024 were released and reunited with their families on Monday, January 6.

In an emotional reunion, Billy Mwangi, Peter Muteti, Bernard Kavuli and Ronny Kiplangat embraced their families after weeks of uncertainty following their abductions by individuals believed to be linked to security agencies.

Tears flowed freely as Mwangi hugged his relieved mother, marking the end of a harrowing ordeal for the family. Billy Mwangi disappeared on Saturday, December 21, 2024, in Embu Town

He was at a barbershop waiting to get a haircut, when four hooded men burst in and forcibly abducted him. Witnesses reported that the men mishandled Mwangi before bundling him into a vehicle and driving off.

His father, who was devastated by the incident, immediately reported the matter to the authorities. For weeks, the family lived in anguish, with no word about his whereabouts.

Meanwhile, Viral Tea established that Kiplangat was found in Machakos County, having been abducted in Nairobi, while Kavuli, who was abducted in Ngong, was found in Kitale.

Peter Muteti was found in Nairobi CBD, as his family reported that he was disoriented and currently recovering from home.

Muteti’s abduction occurred on December 21, 2024, at approximately 9 a.m. in Uthiru, Nairobi. He was reportedly heading out to buy breakfast when armed men, including one wearing a police uniform, seized him outside his apartment.

Witnesses identified the vehicle used in the abduction as having the registration number KCF 035M. Muteti’s disappearance came shortly after a controversial social media post he made about President William Ruto.

Kavuli was abducted at a petrol station in Ngong town by four armed men, an incident linked to his social media activities that included criticism of the government and discussions about the 2007 post-election violence in Kenya.

His abduction occurred shortly after he engaged in controversial discussions on social media platforms, making him one of several individuals targeted around that time

For Kiplangat, the brother to Kibet Bull was found in Machakos after being abducted outside the Kikuyu Seventh-day Adventist Church on December 21, 2024.

By the time of going to press, the whereabouts of cartoonist Kibet Bull remains unknown. Steve Mbisi, who has also been reported missing is yet to be found.
