Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have launched a manhunt for two employees from security firm Wells Fargo who earlier vanished with Ksh94.9 million

In a statement, the detectives uncovered new details regarding the daring heist which saw the duo abandon the firm's vehicle at Dafarm in South C, Nairobi.

The company's driver alongside the leader of the crew had snuck the vehicle filled with the money out of Wells Fargo offices in Nairobi without alerting the police escort car meant to accompany them, confirming initial reports that the heist could have been planned.

"In the 6 a.m. incident, the two suspects Daniel Mungai Mugetha (crew commander) and Anthony Nduiki Waigumo (driver) sneaked the truck out of the company's Nairobi offices shortly after the money box was loaded, leaving behind the police escort car that was waiting to be flagged off," stated DCI.

Oblivious that the truck no. KBA 517T they were to escort had minutes earlier snaked away, the armed escort team went to enquire from the management why the loading was taking too long.

However, as soon as they went to seek an update from the management, neither the truck nor the crew members could be traced.

A report by the company's Investigations Manager indicated that the Isuzu Canter was destined to a bank located at Nairobi's Kenyatta Avenue, ferrying the Ksh94 million belonging to a renowned supermarket in the country.

Earlier, Citizen TV's Seth Olale reported that the millions stolen by the employees from the security firm's offices were weekend sales derived from the local supermarket chain.

The Administration Police (AP) officers who were meant to escort them were the first to raise the alarm.

Afterwards, the investigation manager for the firm reported the matter to Akila Police Station in Lang'ata.

DCI has since launched a special operations team to pursue the suspects.

The agency further urged Kenyans with information leading to the arrest of the suspects whose photos DCI shared to report to them anonymously via the toll-free hotline 0800 722 203.
