A driver and a commander from a security firm has disappeared with Ksh95 million in cash that was headed for a local bank in Nairobi's Central Business District (CBD).

The money was headed for the bank and purposed to be distributed to a local supermarket outlet.

According to Citizen TV's Seth Olale, the millions stolen by the employees from the security firm's offices were weekend sales derived from the local supermarket chain.

"Police launch manhunt for two employees who stole Ksh94.9m of supermarket weekend sales from the firm's offices in South C, Nairobi," he posted on X (formerly Twitter).

A police report on Monday, November 6 indicated that the company’s driver left the offices at around 8.30 a.m. onboard the security firm's vehicle and left without a police escort, as is the norm.

The money from the weekend sales of the supermarket was meant to be taken to the bank's branch at Kenyatta Avenue.

"The said motor vehicle was found dumped at Dafam area South C, next to the southern bypass, without the suspects and the money missing,” reads a police statement.

Police further noted that the heist was premeditated owing to the suspects leaving the offices without the escort.

The Administration Police (AP) officers who were meant to escort them were the first to raise the alarm.

Afterwards, the investigation manager for the firm reported the matter to Akila Police Station in Lang'ata.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations Officer (DCIO) from Lang'ata is investigating the issue, and the scene was visited by the Officer Commanding Station (OCS).

The security firm was yet to issue a statement by the time of publishing this article. It is one of the leading security companies in the region.

Security firms offer cash-in-transit services to banks and businesses that handle outsized transactions, which are secured by AP police through escorts.
