Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI)'s Anti-Narcotics officers from Kilindini, Mombasa County arrested two suspects found in possession of 26 kilograms of bhang worth an undisclosed amount.

DCI revealed in a statement on Friday, June 14 that the duo, Collins Omondi and Halima Masudi Hassan were arrested on different occasions during an anti-drug operation.

The operation commenced at 1 am when officers trailed Omondi as he awaited delivery from Tanga, Tanzania, at the Likoni matatu station.

With precision timing, the officers intercepted Omondi at 6 am as he attempted to conceal the contraband in his Subaru Treza.

"The officers, shadowing Omondi's every move, trailed him to Fazuka Apartment Complex in Utange Solian, where they swiftly arrested him," stated the DCI in part.

Following Omondi's arrest, officers proceeded to the Fazuka Apartment Complex in Utange Solian, where they swiftly apprehended Hassan.

A thorough search of Omondi's vehicle revealed a well-disguised manila sack containing 14kg of cannabis, cleverly camouflaged amidst a pile of oranges.

"A search of his vehicle uncovered a cleverly concealed manilla sack, camouflaged with a mound of oranges. Upon closer examination, the sack was found to harbour 14kg of bhang," added DCI.

Subsequent investigations led the officers to Hassan's residence, where an additional 12kg of cannabis was seized.

"The officers knocked at the house of Halima Masudi Hassan. Unfortunately for her, the faces she met at her door were what she dreaded," said the DCI.

The suspects, along with the confiscated contraband, were promptly taken into custody.

The DCI commended the swift action of the Anti-Narcotics team, emphasizing their commitment to combating drug trafficking in the region. Omondi and Hassan are currently held at Port Police Station awaiting legal proceedings.

The successful operation underscores the relentless efforts of law enforcement agencies to dismantle drug smuggling networks and uphold the rule of law in Kilindini and beyond.

Law enforcement officers have pledged to conduct an operation at the Kenyan Coast to flush out drug dealers in the region.

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua during a recent visit to the coast region gave stern directives to area police, to flash out drug dealers ruining the lives of youths in Mombasa.
