Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on Wednesday, April 17 arrested a drug trafficker in Mombasa during a raid conducted at his house.

The investigative agency revealed in a statement that the sleuths drawn from the Anti-Narcotics Unit seized the suspect in Kiembeni, Bombo area of Kisauni, and from his house and personal car, several sachets of suspected heroin and Cannabis sativa.

A tip-off from a concerned member of the public led detectives to the suspect's location during the early-morning operation.

"Also seized from the suspect is his vehicle which is believed to be a proceed of crime, cash Ksh26,250 and USD 200 (Ksh26,500), a weighing machine, packaging envelopes and three mobile phones believed to contain data of his accomplices," stated the DCI in part.

He will be arraigned at the Mombasa Law Courts on Thursday, April 18, 2024.

Also in Mombasa, officers from the National Police Service (NPS) apprehended a suspected drug dealer in the Kisauni area over the past weekend.

NPS had revealed that the arrest followed a joint intelligence-led operation conducted on Friday night, April 12 night by DCI Anti Narcotics teams and their Coast Region counterparts, at the home of the suspect in Magongo, Kisauni Sub-county.

The narcotics, believed to be heroin weighing 169.18 grams with an estimated market price of Ksh507,540 were seized.

Also recovered was cash of Ksh1,327,300 and USD 3,610 (Ksh469,300), amounting to a total of Ksh1,796,600. Four mobile phones were recovered as well.

Law enforcement officers have pledged to conduct an operation at the Kenyan Coast to flush out drug dealers in the region.

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua during a recent visit to the coast region gave stern directives to area police, to flash out drug dealers ruining the lives of youths in Mombasa. 

He further promised to arrest all the drug barons in the area to clean up the city from drug business.
