President William Ruto's administration, through the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection, has rolled out the ‘Finya Computer Itoe Dollar' free online training programme in a bid to mobilise more youth into taking up digital jobs.

The initiative, born from the Head of State's famous 'Weka dollar mfukoni' suggestion during his numerous public rallies, aims to empower young individuals with digital skills, enabling them to access opportunities in the online job market.

“The objective of the programme is to equip young people with the requisite knowledge, skills, and attitudes for digital/online work to enable them to access decent work and earn an income from the Gig & Freelancing Economy,” the Labour Ministry stated in a notice on Monday, February 19.

Scheduled to run from 8 am to 5 pm, the program is slated to take place from March 4-8, 2024.

Participants can anticipate engaging in interactive sessions and practical exercises facilitated by experienced trainers, enhancing their learning experience.

On several occasions, President Ruto has been narrating success stories of Kenyans working in online jobs in remote parts of the country and earning thousands of shillings.

Recently, the Head of State narrated his encounter with a boy named Brian while visiting a college in Kaiboi, a village 400 kilometres from Nairobi, whose life was transformed through the internet and electricity.

According to Ruto, Brian is a Diploma student, and through the presence of the internet and electricity, he currently works for an Artificial Intelligence (AI) company in Germany.

"Mind you, Brian does not have a passport and has never been to the city of Nairobi but because of technology, the internet and electricity, he now works, not for a supermarket, but for an AI company in Germany," President Ruto revealed.

He explained that this was made possible through the digital revolution in Kenya, enabling individuals like Brian to connect with global opportunities from the comfort of their homes.

In another case, a student pursuing a diploma in ICT became the focal point of an online debate after revealing to President Ruto how he managed to earn more than Ksh27,000 per week through the Internet platform Remotasks.
