The government has fully registered the popular 'Men's Conference', an initiative held every February 14 as a counter to Valentines' Day, after years of it being ridiculed as a non-serious gathering of men.

This was announced on Saturday, February 10 by its chairman and Citizen TV senior political reporter Stephen Letoo, who termed the full registration as required by the Constitution of Kenya as a milestone. This makes the gathering recognised in the laws of Kenya.

"One year since we held our inaugural conference in Carnivore, the men's conference group has made a milestone and is now fully registered as required by our laws and the Constitution," Letoo announced.

Recap: What Is 'Men's Conference'?

For a Kenyan man, the "Men's Conference" is a yearly affair, and while it might look like a serious thing to an outsider, it is a non-existent serious gathering of men whereby men are taught how not to do all things that women want.

The day of the conference coincides with Valentines' Day when you are expected to gift your partners, to celebrate love. However, for this 'conference,' you attend to show that you are busy and won't be able to do any of that.

In summary, at the conference men are taught how not to simp. A simp is slang for a man who is desperate for the attention and affection of a woman and is ready to do anything for her.

It can also be said to be a way to counter females are believed to be the most vulnerable on Valentine's Day.

At the same time, Letoo directed women whose husbands are members of the Men's Conference to pack their bags on their behalf as they prepare to travel to different destinations for the conference, though assuring them that they would return, earliest on Sunday evening, February 18.

"I'm directing all women to pack their husbands' bags in full because we will be designating a lot of members to move out of their destinations and counties to cross border counties to take care of this initiative, so the earliest you should be expecting your boyfriend, your brother, your father back home is on Sunday evening," he stated.

Based on the forum being legally registered, the vocal scribe stated that should the men not show up by Sunday evening, the women should inquire to the organisation for a follow-up on their whereabouts.

"Failure for them to show up on Sunday evening in their respective homes, you are hereby requested to contact our offices for the Mens Conference that is at St Georges House first floor room no. 104 along Parliament Road so that we take it upon ourselves to trace them for you," he added.

Men's Conference 2024 Theme & Campaign

According to Letoo, the theme of this year's Men's Conference will be championing the well-being of the boy child with the main focus being road safety for boda boda riders, the climax of it being the launch of a year-long road safety campaign on Wednesday, February 14.

The campaign will be launched based on the realisation that more men are victims of road carnage, with an annual report by the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) indicating that 3,609 people lost their lives in road accidents between January to October 2023.

"Majority of those who lost their lives sadly are boda boda riders who are part and parcel of the men's conference group. 99% of the riders are men and we care for our fellow men," Letoo disclosed.

"We want to discourage a situation where a man leaves the house in the morning and never returns home leaving behind orphans and widows just because he died on the road."

In response, Letoo said they will start collecting donations for reflector jackets until Tuesday night, February 13, the eve of Valentine's Day, in the road safety campaign dubbed 'Donate a Reflector Jacket and Help Our Men' which will be launched at Uhuru Gardens on Wednesday.

He further asked those planning to donate physical reflector jackets to drop them off at the St George's Building along Parliament Road in Nairobi.

Up to 2,000 boda boda riders, he said, are expected to grace the event besides men from other professions, with all institutions that are friends of men encouraged to join in the campaign.

The political journalist further' said they will use the occasion to condemn femicide and apologise to womenfolk over the recent tragic deaths of their colleagues.

"We will be using Wednesday, February 14, to also apologise on behalf of our rogue members to the female community for whatever has been happening there," he said.

"For that reason, the 2,000 boda boda riders at the Road Safety campaign will each have a single flower to give to women along Moi Avenue as a show and a sign of 'sorry to you on behalf of the male fraternity'."
