Two robbers who were intercepted by police in Kisumu's Maseno area carrying stolen goods tried to fend them off by threatening them with a fake pistol, which worked against them.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on Friday, February 3 that the thugs had escaped the dragnet of four police officers based at Kogony Police post before dawn.

They were heading back to their camp after a dusk-to-dawn patrol, satisfied that the night was calm for area residents. Suddenly, a suspicious motorcycle with its rider and a pillion passenger revved past them in the Whitestone area.

"An attempt by police constable Ben Parapara to flag it down was met with a choking cloud of dust from the two wheels spinning fast past the squad.

"In retaliation, the officers gave chase, provoking the pillion passenger to draw and point at them an imitation of a pistol, as a desperate measure to scare them off," stated the DCI in part.

Following the move, a warning shot from a G3 rifle was triggered by the officers, sending the bike into a ditch. 

However, the suspects scampered fast into a nearby thicket, leaving behind the motorcycle, fake firearm, a crowbar and the suspected stolen property.

The stolen property included a flat-screen TV set, two gas cylinders (5kg and 13kg) two token feeders, an electricity meter, an iron box, a pair of leather shoes and other household items.

This comes after a robbery with violence suspect who featured constantly in the list of Nairobi’s most wanted, was arrested on Monday night, January 30 by the Officer Commanding Station (OCS) Huruma police station.
