The Kenya Railways Corporation (KRC) has announced the migration of services to the eCitizen platform in line with President William Ruto's directive to have all services digitized.

In a notice on Tuesday, January 16, the corporation revealed that it will only accept payments made to the platform via the unified government pay bill 222222, an order that affects all services including commuter and long-distance trains, including the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR).

"We hereby notify members of the public of the public that payments for all services shall only be made through citizen platform in line with Presidential directive," Kenya Railways announced.

All services which were hosted via the Madaraka Express official website before will now be accessed via the eCitizen platform.

These include commuter payments, freight services, real estate, restaurant services, terminal services, parking, Railway Museum, and training.

Each service has its unique account number, with members of the public advised to make payments as below:

Commuter Services

For long-distance safari trains and commuter services, customers should make their payments through pay bill number 222222.

Afterwards, enter the account number: First, enter 'KRCC' followed by Your Name: For example KRCC- Samuel Msafiri

Input the amount required for the journey and then the pin. Make sure the tickets have been bought at the station of departure.

Freight Services

Customers are urged to visit krs.ecitizen.go.ke and then select 'Freight Service Invoice Generator from which they will input their invoice number or the range as well as the amount.

After paying for the service, download the payment receipt for sharing with the Kenya Railways Corporation.

Terminal Services

For this service, only the Nairobi, Malaba, and Makongeni terminals will be covered. Methods are as follows:

  1. Nairobi: customers should input the pay bill number 222222 followed by NRKP 'BTS number'. Enter the amount required and your PIN
  2. Malaba: customers should input the pay bill number 222222 followed by MALT 'BTS number'. Enter the amount required and your PIN
  3. Makongeni: customers should input the pay bill number 222222 followed by MKTM 'BTS number'. Enter the amount required and your PIN.

Railway Training Institute

Log in to the student portal rti.ac.ke then select the 'Financial' option then 'Payment', for students wishing to enrol to the institute.

To hire facilities, customers are encouraged to make payments via pay bill 222222 and refer to the website for a specific code.

Real Estate

For applications, Kenyans are encouraged to log in to krs.ecitizen.go.ke to obtain the application forms.

To rent, customers are advised to dial *222# and select the Make Payments Option. Enter 'KRC123' as a service code.

Afterwards, enter a serial number as the KRC Real Estate Reference, enter the amount, and select option 1 to confirm. Enter your PIN to complete the payment process.

Restaurant Services

For those offering outside catering services, they are encouraged to make payments through pay bill 222222 and then account number 'KRRC 'first name'. Key in the amount required, then the PIN.

For those purchasing meals, individuals are asked to use the unified pay bill 222222 to make payments, then enter 'NRBR 'first name' as the account number. Key in the amount required then the PIN.

The same services are applicable in Nakuru, however, one is advised to use 'NKRR 'first name' as the account number.

Parking 

In Nakuru, motorists are asked to make payments to pay bill 222222 then account number 'NRKP 'number plate'. Key in the amount required, then the PIN.

Railway Museum

For entry and to hire facilities, log on to krs.ecitizen.go.ke and select museum. Follow the process as stipulated.

N.B: According to Kenya Railways, customers can also access all the train services and make payments using the USSD code *222#, on top of the krs.ecitizen.go.ke and pay bill 222222 services.

Since the Presidential directive took effect, over 14,000 government services are currently accessible and payable on eCitizen

On August 7, 2023, the government acted on President Ruto's directive on June 30, 2023 and shut down the over 1,400 pay bills in a move geared at consolidating all payments to one channel.
