Former Harambee Stars coach Jacob ‘Ghost’ Mulee on Monday, April 3 made his comeback to the dugout two years after he left the Kenya national football team.

The 55-year-old gaffer was appointed as the new head coach for Kenya Women Premier League (KWPL) league leaders Gaspo Women for an indefinite period.

He will take over from the goalkeeper trainer James Ombeng who has been the acting head coach.

Ombeng, who had taken over from coach Ibrahim Mohammed who left the team in February 2023, will resume his duties as the goalkeeper trainer.

"With great honour and pride, we are privileged to announce Jacob Ghost Mulee as part of our great family. We requested him to join the team as the head coach to guide us through the remaining league fixtures," Gaspo chairman Edward Githua told Nation.Africa.

"We settled on Mulee because he is one of the most experienced coaches we have around. We are also in the title race and I believe with him we can make history with the club by winning the title this season. The camp is so motivated and recharged for the course."

Mulee's first game in charge of Gaspo Women will be during their weekend match against Zetech Sparks. Gaspo top the table with 31 points same as Vihiga Queens but have a superior goal difference and are unbeaten in six consecutive league games including a 3-0 win over Kayole Starlets last weekend.

Former Makolanders coach Rashid Shedu had also shown interest in coaching the club as an assistant coach.

Mulee's last job at the club level was with the Football Kenya Federation Premier league (FKF-PL) side Kenya Police FC where he served as their technical director.

In a statement by FKF on September 15, 2021 Ghost left the club alongside his assistant Twahir Muhiddin and goalkeeping coach Haggai Azande. William Muluya and Ken Odhiambo were revealed to remain as part of the technical bench as FKF embarked on their search for the next coach.

“Football Kenya Federation and Harambee Stars Head coach ‘Ghost’ Mulee have reached a decision to part ways on mutual consent, effective immediately,” read the statement by FKF CEO Barry Otieno at the time.

“FKF is immensely grateful to Coach Mulee and his departing members of staff for their dedicated service and workmanship. The federation wishes them all the best in their future endeavours."

The following day, Mulee dismissed reports that he was sacked, stating that he left for personal reasons due to the state of his brother’s health that has made him endure a tough time. On December 19, 2021, he announced that he lost his brother.

Mulee will always be famously remembered for guiding Harambee Stars to the 2004 Africa Cup of Nations in Tunisia. Apart from the National team, he has also had stints with FKFPL defending champions Tusker FC, APR of Rwanda and Yanga SC of Tanzania.

The football tactician also hosts a morning show alongside former musician Gidi Ogidi (Gidi Gidi). The show is famous for the segment Patanisho (reunion) where conflicting couples and lovebirds are reunited.
