Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka has come to the defence of Director General of the National Intelligence Service (NIS) Noordin Haji, arguing that President William Ruto orchestrated the abduction of Leslie Muturi, the son of Public Service Cabinet Secretary (CS) Justin Muturi.

Speaking during a press conference on Wednesday, January 15, Kalonzo questioned part of Muturi's claims on January 14 that it took a mere phone call from the President to have Leslie released from his abductors, those whom Muturi alleged in his statement to police were from the NIS.

“The revelations by Muturi on the identity of the Commander-in-Chief of the abduction squad are quite telling. If the then Attorney General cannot get answers to the whereabouts of his son, then who can?

"If Muturi cannot get his phone calls answered by junior staff such as the DG of NIS or the DCI, then who can?” Kalonzo posed.

The former Vice President labelled William Ruto as the Commander in chief of the abductions squad, evidenced by his public pronouncements on abductions and as well as of his allies in the Kenya Kwanza government.

Therefore, Kalonzo opined that it was Ruto who should be blamed in his capacity as Head of State for the abduction of Leslie, not Noordin Haji, sentiments hinting that Haji may have acted under orders in the June 22, 2024 abduction.

“Ruto’s dictatorship, which now allegedly involves kidnapping and torturing people in underground prisons, must be considered as a surrogate criminal enterprise in accordance with the ICC’s Rome Statute,” he added.

“For the avoidance of doubt, the Director General of NIS cannot be held responsible alone. The ICC Statute speaks of those bearing the highest responsibility, and that person is not Noordin Haji, but William Samoei Ruto.”

Kalonzo went on to question the state of the Kenya Kwanza regime if the then Interior CS, Kithure Kindiki and PS Raymond Omollo are furnished with lies from their juniors.

Further, the Wiper Party leader claimed that the government has created a command outside the confines of the constitution to undertake illegal activities such as abductions, with the abduction ring allegedly setting up base at a building in Ruaraka and operating under Ruto's command.

"The Kenya Kwanza regime has established command and control structures outside of the constitution of Kenya, carrying out illegal and criminal activities against Kenyans," he claimed, adding "We have since established that the headquarters of these abductors was near Ruaraka."

The vocal Kenya Kwanza critic demanded that President Ruto respect the Constitution of Kenya 2010 and protect Kenyans.

“We demand that Ruto respects Kenyans and upholds the oath of office he swore to preserve under Kenya’s 2010 constitution and ensure the release of all remaining abductees,” Kalonzo affirmed, adding that failure to which, Ruto must resign.

“If Ruto refuses to respect and enforce Kenya’s constitution and the laws, the solution is straightforward—he should resign.”
