The Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) has donated a military aircraft to the Moi Forces Academy-Lanet to support its aviation studies program.

This follows the school’s introduction of Aviation Technology as a subject, making it the first National Girls' School in Kenya to offer the course.

KDF stated that the aircraft will provide hands-on learning opportunities for the more than 50 students currently enrolled in the program.

Notably, unlike past donations that often involved decommissioned aircraft, KDF broke with tradition by providing a fully operational training plane.

"Moi Forces Academy-Lanet launched the Aviation Technology subject, becoming the first National Girls School to offer it in the country," KDF shared.

"The event themed 'Demystifying Aviation' saw the school acquire a fully functional training aircraft which will henceforth provide the over 50 students currently enrolled for the subject a practical exposure to aviation operations."

Moi Forces Academy-Lanet has officially become the first national girls' school in Kenya to offer aviation studies as part of its curriculum.

Mang’u High School was the pioneer in introducing Aviation Technology as an examinable subject in Kenya, covering technical topics such as propulsion, thermodynamics, and meteorology.

Its students conduct practical lessons at Wilson Airport and Moi Air Force Base in Embakasi, and were recently gifted a decommissioned aircraft by the national carrier for training purposes.

Other institutions offering aviation include Moi Forces Academy in Nairobi and Maseno School in Kisumu County, the latter having introduced the subject under former principal Paul Otula.

The recent aircraft donation to Moi Forces Academy-Lanet is expected to encourage more girls' schools to embrace aviation education, inspired by trailblazers like Kenya Air Force Commander Major General Fatuma Gaiti Ahmed.
