MP Threatens To Have Sifuna Kicked Out Of ODM
Recently, Sifuna has come under heavy fire from a faction within the party that appears to support President William Ruto’s administration.

Homa Bay Town Member of Parliament Peter Kaluma has criticised Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Secretary General and Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna for his remarks against the broad-based government, warning that he may initiate steps to remove Sifuna from the party.
This is as internal wrangles within ODM persist, with members increasingly clashing over the party's stance on the broad-based government.
Recently, Sifuna has come under heavy fire from a faction within the party that appears to support President William Ruto’s administration.
The division stems from differing views on whether to align with the government, particularly following the memorandum of understanding signed between ODM and UDA, and the inclusion of former ODM officials in government roles.

Sifuna has maintained that ODM is not part of the government, using this position to criticise the administration, often targeting former party members who have since joined it.
ODM leader Raila Odinga defended Sifuna, affirming that he speaks for the ODM party, but tensions still remained high. However, on Sunday, May 10, Kaluma criticised Sifuna for condemning the government, despite knowing that ODM has a formal agreement with the UDA administration.
Kaluma accused Sifuna of neglecting his responsibility to uphold and protect the party’s agreements.
"My brother Sifuna must know we made him secretary general to speak on resolved party positions such as the Memorandum of Understanding between UDA and ODM, which lays the foundation for the Broad-Based Government," Kaluma stated on his X account.
He questioned how the Secretary General could claim to be guided by the MoU while simultaneously attacking the government.
The MP cautioned Sifuna that if he didn’t moderate his criticism, steps would be taken to remove him from the party.
"You can’t support the MoU and attack the BBG at the same time, my friend! In which government are you, if not the Government of Kenya? Who do you think you can dupe that ODM is not in government when the party holds all those critical ministries and departments of government? You can’t be eating and vomiting at the same time. You are not more articulate than Namwamba. You either shape up or ship out!" Kaluma said.
Even prior to the MoU that formalised the cooperation between the two party leaders, Sifuna had been openly criticising the Kenya Kwanza government, sticking to ODM's original opposition stance.
However, several ODM leaders, including Raila, have since taken issue with his remarks, particularly given his role as Secretary General.
"The spokesman of the party is usually the secretary general, so when Mr Sifuna speaks, he speaks on behalf of the party. But Mr Sifuna, sometimes tone down a bit," Raila told Sifuna during the funeral of Kasipul MP Charles Were.
"As members of ODM, we must remain steadfast and edify ODM as a strong political party. Yes, in a political party, there are always differences in opinions on some issues, but the party must have a firm stand on the issues; people must talk, but ultimately, there is an official position that will be articulated by the party."
