KeNHA Announces Closure Of Southern Bypass Section For 2 Weeks
The authority revealed that the closure will commence Tuesday, December 24, 2024, at 8 pm and is expected to last until midnight on Sunday, January 5, 2025.

The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has announced the closure of a section of the Nairobi Southern Bypass from Ole Sereni Interchange to Ngong Road Interchange.
In a notice from Director General Eng. Kungu Ndungu on Monday, December 23, the authority revealed that the closure will commence Tuesday, December 24, 2024, at 8 pm and is expected to last until midnight on Sunday, January 5, 2025. Both carriageways shall be affected by the temporary closure.
"This is to enable the rehabilitation of the expansion joints of all the bridges along the closed section as well as the reconstruction of concrete pavement of the Virtual Weighbridge," the notice read in part.
Because of the closure, all traffic will be diverted through Mombasa Road (A8) Highway, Lang'ata Road and Ngong Road as an alternative route during this period.

To facilitate the fast completion of the project, they have also been urged to familiarise themselves with the diversion routes and to exercise caution while driving around the work areas. Police and traffic marshals will also be on-site to ensure a smooth transition.
The rehabilitation of The Nairobi Southern Bypass forms part of KeNHA's broader efforts to improve countrywide road safety, especially along busy routes such as Ngong Road, Lang'ata Road, and Mombasa Road.
This means that the closure is expected to have a ripple effect on traffic across the city given that other roads have been marked for temporary closures.
On Saturday, December 21, KeNHA announced the temporary closure of a section of Kiambu Road for the rehabilitation and reconstruction of the Ruiru-Tatu City-Kiambu (B115) Road.
“The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) would like to inform the public that Ruiru-Tatu City-Kiambu (B115) Road will be temporarily closed at a section between Kirigiti Roundabout to St.Peter and Paul Catholic Church,” part of the notice read.
The closure will also affect travel plans during the holidays as it takes effect today, December 23 and will run through the holiday to Monday 6.
For motorists affected by the route closure, their vehicles will be diverted through the Kirigiti-Rui Stage Junction-Kiambu Town route during the period.
