The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) announced on Tuesday, July 11 that a section of Mombasa Road would be closed beginning later in the night.

In a notice, KeNHA revealed that the temporary closure will commence at 10 pm on July 11 until 4.00 am the following day, lasting a period of five days, until Sunday, June 16.

The section between the Nairobi Expressway exit at Mlolongo to the Athi River Interchange will be affected by the temporary closure whose times were allocated to avoid inconveniences to motorists travelling to and from work.

"The Kenya National Highways Authority wishes to notify the public that there will be a temporary closure of a section of the Mombasa-bound carriageway between Mlolongo (near expressway exit) to Athi River Interchange from Tuesday 11th to Sunday 16th July 2023 between 10:00 pm and 4:00 am.

"Normal traffic shall be restored daily upon completion of works at 4.30 am," stated the authority in part.

KeNHA added that the closure is to allow for highway maintenance works along the section.

Furthermore, the traffic will be diverted to share one adjacent lane of the dual carriageway.

"Motorists are advised to approach the section with caution and to follow the traffic signs and guidance as directed by traffic Marshall and Police," added the authority.

The closure is anticipated to disrupt normal operations as well as lead to congestion in the stretch known for trucks loading and offloading from adjacent industries.

The stretch under maintenance will thus affect transport operations at Mombasa Cement and Polytanks and Containers Kenya Limited.

Meanwhile, Kenyans living in Delta Plain Estate, Marimbeti and Sheshe Gardens are set to be affected by the planned maintenance as they will have to plan their journeys in advance.

Kenyans visiting Signature Mall during the period in which the stretch is under maintenance will also have their operations affected.
