Former Nyeri Town Member of Parliament Ngunjiri Wambugu expressed on Monday, March 27 that the invasion of Northlands City - owned by the Kenyatta family along Nairobi Eastern Bypass, would prompt property owners to seek more dire methods of security.

In a series of short statements, Wambugu condemned the attack and noted that it would trigger a series of daring invasions similar to the Northlands one by unknown people without alerting the property owners beforehand.

He argued that the invasion would create a recipe for disaster and widen the gap between Kenya's rich and poor and that wealthy families would resort to employing people voluntarily to protect their assets compared to depending on the safety of the government.

"Whoever came up with the idea of having people invade the land of Kenya's Founding Father and the First President Jomo Kenyatta, in a world that's connected everywhere via the Internet, has done Kenya a lot of harm today.

"At this rate, what will stop a rich family from inviting young men and women to volunteer to protect their property if it becomes clear that their government will not protect them? Isn't this how private militias are formed?" he posed.

He condemned the manner in which the invasion took place similar to how he condemned Azimio la Umoja leader Raila Odinga for creating an atmosphere for unknown individuals to invade Nairobi Central Business District (CBD) at will.

"The same way I don’t support Raila creating an enabling platform for goons to invade Nairobi today is the same way I don’t support whoever sent goons to Northlands. The beauty of being consistent," he went on.

The daring invasion was earlier condemned by Raila who went on to blame Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua after his East Africa Spectre Limited gas plant was invaded by goons on the same day.

“Those cowards sent goons today to Uhuru Kenyatta’s farm. They have also resorted to sending people to my Spectre factory. That is an act of crime and stupidity,” Odinga told protesters in Nairobi’s Kibera area.

“We have followed the constitution in our politics and protests. Those invading other people’s farms and factories are cowards. Mr Gachagua, the so-called child of the Mau Mau!"

As he spoke, the crowd began chanting that they wanted him to lead them in a mass action on Tuesday, March 28. However, he declined the request by his supporters.

"Do you want a protest tomorrow or on Thursday? I am afraid Tuesday will not be possible because we have to follow the constitution before we have one," Odinga told the crowd.

Hundreds of individuals had stormed the Northlands area by breaching the fence from the Kamakis side through the bypass. They were reported to have carried sheep away from the land with videos showing a number of them, armed with power saws, cutting down the trees planted on the property.
