Nairobi residents along Thika Road, Mombasa Road, Lang'ata Road, Outer-Ring Road and the Central Business District (CBD) will be hit with a 30-hour disruption of water supply starting tomorrow, Thursday, October 12.

This is according to the Nairobi City Water and Sewerage Company (NCWSC) which explained that the water supply will be interrupted from Thursday, October 12 from 6.00 a.m. to Friday, October 13, 2023, at 12.00 p.m.

The disruption will be a result of a temporary shutdown of the Ngethu Water Treatment Plant.

"The Nairobi City Water and Sewerage Company would like to inform its esteemed customers that there will be a complete shutdown of the Ngethu Water Treatment Plant on Thursday, 12 October 2023 from 6.00 am to Friday 13 October 2023,12.00pm.

"The shutdown will facilitate the repair of a major leakage on the raw water pipeline between Matara Raw Water Chamber and Ngethu Water Treatment Plant. It will involve carrying out scheduled maintenance at the Kiambu reservoir, also in preparation of the anticipated El Niño phenomenon during the October 2023 short rains," Nairobi Water stated in its notice in part.

The water supply disruption was initially scheduled for Thursday, October 5 but did not take place due to unavoidable circumstances.

The areas to be affected include:

The whole of Central Business District, University of Nairobi main campus, Coca Cola Factory, Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, EPZ- Athi river, Mlolongo area, Gatundu and Kiambu towns

Areas along Mombasa Road: South B, South C and the neighbourhoods including Embakasi Area

The whole of Industrial area

Areas along Juja road: Mlango Kubwa, the whole of Mathare, Eastleigh Airforce Base, Huruma, Kariobangi, Pangani and Eastleigh

Areas along Jogoo road: Maringo, Buruburu and the surrounding estates, Bahati

Areas along the Outer-ring road: Baba dogo, Dandora, Dandora KCC factory, Umoja Estate 1 & 2, Donholm, Fedha, Tassia, Avenue Park, Nyayo Embakasi

Areas along Kangundo Road: Ruai, Kayole, Komarock estate, Mwiki and Njiru

Areas along Thika road: Kenya Breweries, Kenyatta University, Githurai, Zimmerman, Kahawa West, Kahawa Barracks, Kasarani, Mwiki, Kahawa Sukari, Kahawa Wendani, Brookside Dairies, Garden Estate and Thome Estate

Areas along Limuru road: Parklands, Ngara area, Aga Khan Hospital, University of Nairobi - School of Law and City Park Area, Gigiri, United Nations Gigiri, Muthaiga

Areas along Naivasha Road and Kikuyu Road, Kawangware, Riruta/Satellite, Uthiru, Ndwaru Road,

Areas along James Gichuru Road, Lang'ata Road and Waiyaki Way, Riverside, Westlands, Lavington, Kilimani, Kileleshwa,

Areas along Lang'ata Road: Madaraka, Karen, Lang'ata and Kibra

"Whilst every effort will be made to restore the supply of water as soon as possible, we request all customers in the affected areas to use water sparingly during the period of interruption," advised Nairobi Water.
