LSK Tasks DPP With Thoroughly Investigating Death Of Wajir MCA Yussuf Ahmed
The Law Society of Kenya (LSK) issued three demands to the ODPP led by Renson Ingonga and the Office of the Inspector General of Police led by Douglas Kanja.

The office of the Director of Public Prosecution (ODPP) alongside the Inspector General of Police were on Wednesday, October 23 compelled to expedite investigations into the murder of Wajir Member of County Assembly (MCA) for Della Anole Ward, Yussuf Hussein Ahmed.
In a statement, the Law Society of Kenya (LSK) issued three demands to the ODPP led by Renson Ingonga and the Office of the Inspector General of Police led by Douglas Kanja.
To begin with, the LSK is demanding an immediate, thorough, and independent investigation into the abduction and murder of the politician.
"We urge the Director of Public Prosecutions to exercise his powers under Article 157(4) of the Constitution and direct the Inspector General of Police to urgently conduct investigations aimed at apprehending and prosecuting all those involved in this heinous crime," the statement read in part.

LSK further called upon all law enforcement agencies to adhere strictly to the rule of law in the execution of their duties, stating that "extrajudicial killings and enforced disappearances must not be tolerated in a country that upholds constitutionalism and human rights."
"The Law Society of Kenya will continue to monitor this case closely to ensure that justice is not only pursued but also served. The perpetrators must be brought to book without delay to restore confidence in our justice system," LSK President Faith Odhiambo added in the statement.
LSK recalled that it had on September 27 informed the public of Ahmed's abduction, based on information from his family. According to the family, the MCA was abducted by unknown assailants on Friday, September 13, 2024, at around 8:00 pm, along Enterprise Road in Nairobi.
Per the society's account, the heavily armed assailants, driving in two unmarked Land Cruiser Prados, intercepted Ahmed's taxi, forcibly removed him from the vehicle, and whisked him away to an unknown location. The family reported the incident to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) at Makadara Police Station.
"Subsequently, the LSK was joined as an interested party in Miscellaneous Criminal Application No. E341 of 2024, and on 26th September, 2024, the court issued orders directing the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to either produce Hon. Ahmed in court or provide an explanation as to why he could not be produced if he was in custody.
"While both the DPP and DCI appeared in court, they failed to comply with the order to produce Hon. Ahmed. The LSK was in the process of filing contempt of court proceedings when news of his tragic death was received," added LSK.
Ahmed's mutilated body was found in Lake Yahud. His death was confirmed by politician Idris Bulle Mohamed who revealed in a Facebook post that Ahmed’s body had been found and delivered to the family.
LSK strongly condemned what it termed as extrajudicial killing, saying it not only violates the rule of law but also instils fear and insecurity in members of the public.
"His killing is a reprehensible and flagrant violation of his fundamental rights, including the right to life as guaranteed under Article 26(1) of the Constitution of Kenya (2010).
"As we extend our deepest condolences to the family and friends of Hon. Ahmed, we stand in solidarity with them and the people of Wajir County during this difficult period. May the memory of Hon. Ahmed inspire renewed vigilance in the fight for justice and the rule of law in Kenya," mourned Odhiambo.
