Police in Eldama Ravine, Baringo County, are investigating the brutal murder of a 32-year-old woman, allegedly attacked and killed by her ex-husband in a fit of jealousy over her relationship with another man.

The tragic incident was reported on Monday night, March 25, by Saos area Chief, Judith Chebon, after the woman's lifeless body was discovered outside her current boyfriend’s rented house, bearing deep head wounds.

Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Koibatek have launched an investigation, with the prime suspect, Alex Kimeli Ng'elel, currently on the run and being pursued by authorities.

This heinous murder adds to the numerous cases of femicide, a vice that has proven hard to contain by authorities in Kenya. Since the beginning of the year, at least five women have been found dead under mysterious circumstances.

Among them is Lydiah Tokesi, a 29-year-old Moi University graduate whose mutilated body was discovered in Gataka Forest, Kajiado County, after she went missing on January 4. Authorities have identified her long-term boyfriend as the prime suspect.

Another case under police investigation is the murder of Joy Fridah Munani, a 19-year-old whose dismembered body was found inside a backpack carried by her husband, John Kiama Wambua, in Nairobi County.

Other victims include Laurine Ochieng, allegedly killed by her estranged husband in Siaya County after being invited for a discussion, and Winnie Akusuh, who was reportedly stabbed to death by her husband in Nandi County following a domestic dispute. Tragically, the incident left their three children orphaned.

A report on femicide in Kenya released in 2024, titled Silencing Women: Tracking and humanising femicide cases in Kenya, by Odipodev, a data analytics and research firm and independent investigative media company, Africa Uncensored, outlined how the year was the deadliest on record for women in the country.

It revealed that 170 women were killed in 2024, an increase from the annual average of 85 cases recorded from 2016 to 2023.

This, however, excluded the Kware cases, though it included 18 cases confirmed by the Mukuru Social Justice Centre, in which Collins Jumaisi Khalusa later confessed to killing 42 women.
