Renowned actress Catherine Kamau popularly known as Kate actress and Philip Karanja aka Director Phil have announced their separation.

In a joint statement, the duo revealed on Tuesday, September 19 that they decided to call it quits on their marriage, five years since they walked down the aisle in a lavish wedding.

The immediate former couple however steered clear of revealing the circumstances that made them part ways.

“We came to a conclusion to end our marriage a long while ago and are separated. We sincerely request everyone to honour our wishes for privacy for us and our children,” read the statement.

Kate Actress, seemingly anticipating a series of subsequent questions from her fans following the split, revealed that she and Director Phil managed to keep details of their separation off the spotlight for a while.

“Was never a secret, we just kept it private. To all our dear fans, asanteni sana (thank you all very much) for the support over the years,” she stated.

Her sentiments were backed by Director Phil who assured fans that the divorce was between the couple only, asking them to allow them to move on with their lives.

“Hii ni mambo ya watu wawili (this was between two people), but allow us to add you to the group chat kidogo, so we can proceed with our lives bila story mob (without too many stories),” he stated.

Karanja, however, noted that they will remain friends, co-parents and business partners. 

Kate Actress and Philip Karanja formed a dynamic duo within the entertainment industry in Kenya and have collaborated on diverse projects. However, their marriage has become a topic of interest recently, drawing public scrutiny.

In April, both of them firmly dismissed rumours hinting at a possible separation, with Kate Actress taking to Instagram to showcase that their relationship was going strong, via a video showcasing the couple joyously engaged at a gathering, savouring a meal together, and radiating happiness.

This visual affirmation successfully dispelled the rumours that had been circulating on various social media platforms before the official announcement on September 19.

Kate Actress and Phil Director exchanged vows at the Windsor Golf Hotel and Country Club in November 2017.

They have a daughter together and are also raising Kate's son from a previous relationship.
