Azimio la Umoja presidential candidate Raila Odinga's chief agent, Saitabao Ole Kanchory has become the sudden highlight of chaos at the National Tallying Centre at the Bomas of Kenya, which took an ugly turn.

Sanchory, in a live TV broadcast, boldly walked towards the VIP dais where Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) chairman Wafula Chebukati sits, alongside his team. It is the same dais whereby the team gives updates on the presidential election results to the public.

The agent shouted "I want to announce that Bomas of Kenya is a scene of crime," which interrupted a noisy scuffle between a section of politicians.

His moment was however short-lived as the microphone was turned off before he could finish his statement. Dejected, he walked down the dais as the politicians kept arguing.

The chaos halted the ongoing verification exercise of presidential votes as Azimio agents claimed that the exercise had irregularities. Some of them claimed that some IEBC officials were colluding with their opponents to alter the results and sneak in Forms 34A.

In another video seen by Viral Tea, irate party agents were seen accosting an IEBC official accused of electoral malpractice.

Another video showed a riled-up Nairobi Woman Representative, Esther Passaris, dragging an individual across the hall before he was saved by police officers who separated her from him.

Elgeyo Marakwet Senator, Kipchumba Murkomen was captured in another scene angrily demanding police officers that formed a barricade between the politicians and the officials, to let him through.

By the time of publishing this story, heavy security was enhanced at the auditorium, with anti-riot police called in to curb the chaos.

The chaos comes just hours after the IEBC ordered politicians out of the auditorium. Commissioner Abdi Guliye announced on Saturday, August 13 that politicians and anyone without a specific duty have been barred from the tallying centre which is carrying out verification of the Forms 34A and 34B.

Guliye added that the directive was in line with the commission's plan to speed up the process and conclude on time, without interruption from politicians and other unauthorised individuals.

The Commissioner further noted that IEBC would only allow the Chief Agents of the presidential candidates, their deputies and clerks assisting in the verification process to access the auditorium, as well as members of the media.

"Moving forward, IEBC’s national tallying centre at the Bomas of Kenya will only allow the presence of chief and deputy chief agents and clerks who are doing the verification; no one else is allowed!

"We have also given instructions at the gate that no one should be allowed at the venue. That is the instructions we have given to the police," Guliye added.

Other than the media, election observers and diplomats were allowed to stay and monitor the tallying process.
