Ruto Makes New State Appointments As Murkomen Fires Half Of KPA Board
All the appointments took effect immediately...

President William Ruto on Friday, January 20 made new appointments to various state corporations and agencies whilst Transport Cabinet Secretary (CS) Kipchumba Murkomen shook up the leadership of the Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) Board.
The Head of State in a Gazette notice appointed Abdi Bare Duale as the Chairperson of the Board of Directors of Kenya Electricity Transmission Company Limited.
He also appointed Charles Githinji as the Chairperson of the Pharmacy and Poisons Board.
Fatma Bakari Barayan was appointed to lead the Youth Enterprise Development Fund Board’s Non-Executive Chairperson, while Phillip Mong’ony was named Chair of the State Corporations Advisory Committee.
Sophy Nekoye Waliaula was further appointed as the Youth Advisory Board’s Non-Executive Chairperson as well as Surum Ipato Korema as the chairperson of the Anti-Female Genital Mutilation Board.
All the appointments took effect immediately, pending other communications from corresponding Ministries. Those appointed by the President will serve for a three-year term.
He revoked the appointment of Agnes Mantaine Pareiyo, who was previously the chair of the Anti-Female Genital Mutilation Board.
Meanwhile, Murkomen revoked the appointments of Lydia Yator, Stephen Gichuhi Gichohi, Conrad Thorpe, Farida Abdalla Sud and Nilfat Kassim Ali, who were replaced with Musa Osman, Emmanuel Kibet, Consolata Lusweti, Lucas Maitha, and Caroline Njoki Maina to serve for a period of three years beginning January 23, 2023.
The move comes on the back of the revocation of the appointment of Gen (Rtd) Joseph Kibwana as the chair of the KPA board. He was replaced by former Kinango Member of Parliament Benjamin Tayari.
The KPA board is responsible for the management and development of the country's ports and harbours.
At the same time, Health Cabinet Secretary (CS) Susan Wafula revoked the appointments of six members of the Pharmacy and Poisons Board. They include Paul Magutu Njaria, Dorcas Wanjiru Ngechu, John Munguti Kisengi, Miriam Wairimu Ndirangu, Stephens Ogutu Oyaya, and Diana Marion, which took effect immediately.
Former Nyeri Health CEC Charles Githinji has been appointed as the new chair of the Pharmacy and Poisons Board, taking over from James Mandere Rogers Atebe.
The Pharmacy and Poisons Board, established under the Pharmacy and Poisons Act, Chapter 244 of the Laws of Kenya, regulates the practice of pharmacy and the manufacture and trade of drugs and poisons.
