President William Ruto has made a series of appointments across various State agencies, with the new appointees expected to serve for a period of three years effective immediately.

The changes, as captured in a gazette notice dated Friday, November 18, saw the Head of State replace Ambassador Francis Muthaura as the chairperson of the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA).

Muthaura's tenure was to end in May 2023 after his term was renewed for the second time by former President Uhuru Kenyatta in May 2020.

"In exercise of the powers conferred by section 3 (1) (a) of the Kenya Meat Commission Act, I, William Ruto, President of the Republic of the Kenya and Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Forces appoint," the gazette notice read in part.

Taking his place will be Anthony Ng'ang'a Mwaura, who served as the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party National Elections Board (NEB) Chairman.

Other changes saw Gen. (Rtd) Joseph Kiptoo Kasaon appointed the chairperson of the Kenya Meat Commission (KMC). This is after Agriculture CS Mithika Linturi assured that the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) will continue managing the facilities of the meat producer across the country.

Kenya Meat Commission has a huge production capacity and infrastructure. It has a slaughter capacity of 1,250 large animals per day and 2,000 small stocks per day.

“The President issued orders saying that KMC falls within the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development. The military is part of the Kenyan government and we must respect the good work they have done,” Linturi said.

KMC was transferred to the Ministry of Defence following an order by former President Kenyatta. At the time, it was operating below capacity and was grappling with an unreliable supply of raw materials and an ageing plant, which slowed down its operations.
