Former President Uhuru Kenyatta's son, Jomo Kenyatta has withdrawn a case where he challenged the government's decision to revoke his firearm license.

John Jomo Kenyatta, the Chief Licensing Officer, the Firearms Licensing Board and the Attorney General reached an agreement over the gun license dispute and recorded a consent in court.

In the consent adopted by Justice Jairus Ngaah, the matter was deemed settled after the state had reached an agreement never to interfere with Jomo’s firearm license.

The state further assured Jomo that they would abide by the procedure set out in the Firearms Act.

"By consent, this matter is hereby marked as settled," the judge ruled. Should the matter however arise again, it shall be dealt with as guided by the Firearms Act.

The July 26, 2023 move to file a suit at the Milimani Law Courts came days after an attempted raid at his home in Karen in search of guns.

Multiple reports indicated that Jomo filed a suit at the Nairobi court aggrieved by the State's move to revoke his license, arguing that it is valid until April 2024.

Jomo had wanted the court to order the Firearms Licensing Board and the Attorney General barred from demanding his license without following the due process set out in the Firearms Act.

The High Court thereafter barred the State from revoking Jomo’s gun licence. The ruling was made by Justice Jarius Ngaah who said that the case would be heard through written submissions.

Jomo was to file his submissions within seven days and the respondents within seven days of service. However, in December 2023, Jomo and the state started negotiating on settling his firearm license case out of court.

Jomo through Senior Counsel Fred Ngatia told the court that negotiations were ongoing to settle the matter and asked the court to grant them a mention date for January 31, 2024, where they would possibly record a consent.

During a meeting with news editors on July 24, 2023, Uhuru claimed that there was a plot to plant guns and drugs at the home of Jomo through the police raid that occurred on July 21, 2023.

He claimed that the alleged cache of guns allegedly held by his two sons, Jomo and Muhoho was an attempt by propagandists to divert the public attention from more important issues.

"This gun issue is surrounded by lots of propaganda to divert attention from what has been happening," he told the senior journalists, adding "I believe they wanted to plant drugs and guns in my son's compound."
