Former Nominated Senator, Millicent Omanga, has claimed that President William Ruto's promises on lowering the cost of living in the country are beginning to be implemented.

The former lawmaker on Friday, October 28 observed that the prices of some essential commodities have started to drop, though she did not specify which ones in particular.

She added that the Kenya Kwanza administration is working overtime to ensure that the strain on Kenyans' budgets owing to the high cost of basic goods is reduced so that Kenyans can live a life of fewer worries.

"Seen prices of essential commodities are coming down. I told you that before long you'll start seeing good things coming your way.

"The government of President William Ruto is burning the midnight oil to ensure the burden on Kenyans is lifted surreptitiously," she wrote.

Back in September, she asked Kenyans to be a bit patient with the new administration after Kenyans started complaining over the high cost of fuel, worsened by President Ruto's decision to do away with the fuel subsidy.

In a tweet, the former Senator pointed out that Ruto inherited a country that was having a dilapidated economy and that it will take time to bring it back to where it should be. She advised Kenyans to trust the process of rebuilding the country from the previous government.

On Monday, May 23, she complained about the prices of basic items continuing to increase, despite being hit with sharp criticism for being part of former President Uhuru Kenyatta's government.

"Prices of basic commodities continue to skyrocket. Cost of living hitting the roof.

"Voters must make an informed choice as this election is between those who will bring down the cost of living versus those who want to follow in the footsteps of the architect of our current travails," she tweeted then.

National Assembly Deputy Speaker Gladys Boss Shollei pleaded with Kenyans to give the new government time to address the issues of hard economic times in the country, warning that the Kenya Kwanza government may not give Kenyans all of its promises in 100 days.

Meanwhile, reality has forced the President to review some of the Kenya Kwanza campaign promises and timelines. Earlier this week, the Head of State asked Kenyans to allow him a period of one year to bring down the cost of maize flour.

On several occasions during the campaign period, Ruto noted that addressing the high cost of maize flour, a staple food, was a simple affair and promised Kenyans immediate relief after being sworn in. Up to now, the cost of a 2kg of maize flour is over Ksh200 for some brands.
