Former Nairobi Governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko on Friday, May 12 confirmed claims by former Citizen TV anchor Jacque Maribe that she was with him at the time of the murder of Monica Kimani on September 19, 2018.

In a 240-word statement on Twitter, the former county boss agreed with Maribe's revelation made in her defence before Justice Grace Nzioka at a Nairobi court and would give more facts on the matter.

Maribe in her defence had revealed to the court that she was with the governor's entourage at an entertainment joint in Westlands on the night of Kimani's murder and that she joined the governor and his two handlers who were hosted on Citizen TV for an interview.

"It’s true l was with Jackie Maribe at Citizen TV when I was being interviewed in the JKL show on the 19th of September 2018, from about 9:45 pm. I was accompanied by Chela Ruto, Hon. Juju, Hon. Nancy, Hon. Anita and other male friends by then Odhis, Show, Swaleh, and Pinye, among others.

"After the show, I volunteered to take all those who were with me for drinks and nyama choma at the club which belonged to my friend Allan Igambi formerly GM Serena and Lilian Towers who was also present," he recalled.

Maribe and the governor's entourage staged their own celebrations with drinks aplenty until about 4 am when Sonko retreated to his home.

To prove his claims that he was with Maribe that night, he downloaded CCTV footage of the from the entertainment joint after Maribe was arrested in connection with the murder of Monica Kimani.

"Since this was there from the day Jackie was arrested, I managed to download the CCTV ya the club. It's there," he went on.

Sonko however denied knowledge of Jowie Irungu, who was also arrested in connection with the murder of the businesswoman, and further expressed his stance regarding his actions on the material day.

"However, I do not know Jowie Irungu, and I don't support his actions at all on that material day, and if it'd true he murdered Monica Kimani, let the law take its course. That's is all I wish to state," Sonko continued.

Maribe had claimed that they stayed at the entertainment joint and were joined by her ex-boyfriend, Jowie, later that night, though noting that she did not know the deceased, maintaining that he was in Sonko's company when Kimani was murdered.

"I left my workplace at Royal Media Services and went to a club in Westlands with Governor Sonko’s entourage. I did not even meet with Jowie who at the time was my fiancée as he only joined us later at the club and sat on a different table," Maribe stated.

Reading The News On Monica Kimani's Murder

Maribe further revealed to the court that she learned of the demise of Monica while reading 4 pm news on Citizen TV and denied knowing her prior to the murder.

At the time, she was hosting Citizen Briefs at 4 pm on September 21, where she read news of Monica's death.

"I learnt about her death when I was reading a news bulletin. I urge this court to acquit me,” she testified.

"I did not know Monica Kimani. I had never met her. I had never communicated with her. I had never discussed with the first accused person or anyone else concerning Monica. I had no motive to want her dead," she told the court.
