Police on Wednesday, March 8 launched investigations into the mysterious death of 23-year-old interior designer Geoffrey Mwathi which occurred at the residence of popular Kikuyu benga artist and DJ Fatxo, real name Lawrence Njuguna.

Mwathi was said to have fallen from the 10th floor of Redwood Apartments along USIU Road at the residence which was rented out to DJ Fatxo.

The interior designer, according to media reports, was contracted by the popular ‘mugithi’, artist for a makeover on two spaces: an office and a shop.

He allegedly left his home on February 21, 2023, to meet with the deejay and discuss the specifics of the job.

Mwathi’s mother, who currently resides in Qatar, released WhatsApp recordings which revealed that her son pleaded with her for Ksh200 in order to attend the meeting in Ruiru, Kiambu County.

"Mum aki si unitumie 200 sahii DJ Fatxo amenichatisha ameniambia tumeet na sina doh, nangoja doh jioni (Mum please send me Ksh200 right now, DJ Fatxo told me that we should meet and I don't have money, I'm waiting for money in the evening)," Mwathi could be heard saying in an audio obtained by Inooro TV

"Sawa mum, acha niende, nakaa smart nitaenda kupiga picha na yeye tukipatana nitakupigia picha uone (Okay mum, let me go, I look smart, I'll go take a picture with him when we meet and will take one so that you see)."

Mwathi would later update his mother with another voice clip hours later stating that he met the DJ and was on Kiambu Road after they toured the spaces he was to decorate.

A statement recorded by DJ Fatxo at the Kasarani Police station revealed that the duo on the day they met went through four different clubs, beginning with Bliss Bistro and ending at Quiver Lounge along Thika Road.

CCTV footage obtained from Redwood apartments showed them with three unidentified women returning to DJ Fatxo's apartment at around 3 am. A police report further revealed that there was another man, a relative of the DJ, who arrived at the apartment in a different car.

The DJ was thereafter captured in the footage leaving his apartment with the three women one hour later, while Mwathi was left in the house with two other men.

Another CCTV footage showed two men in the apartment's parking lot scanning the area while the DJ's cousin was seen making several phone calls before returning to the apartment, even though it was unclear what transpired.

Seven minutes later, the footage showed Mwathi falling from the apartment, leaving police and neighbours shocked. Mwathi's uncle, Muchoki Mwathi, would later reveal that the interior decorator was found dead with his pants pulled down to his knees.

Pathologists at the City Mortuary, where an autopsy was performed, were unable to determine whether the late Mwathi had been sexually assaulted because it had been 72 hours since the incident.

Statements filed by DJ Fatxo and the two men who were at his house during the incident revealed that Mwathi had jumped to his death, claiming to have discovered so after the DJ returned home around 9 am, informing them of the situation outside the apartment.

Meanwhile, Mwathi's family has dismissed the suicide narrative, claiming that the interior decorator had never considered suicide. Investigations into the matter are ongoing.

DJ Fatxo is known for his "Ndi Mang'a" banger. He also runs a deejaying school.

Viral Tea did spot checks on the disc jockey's Facebook page and found a cryptic post which read "Leo nimeona niwakumbushe (Today I felt like reminding you all that) the wages of sin is death," accompanied by a photo of himself singing into a microphone, which has since triggered an uproar in the comments section.

His last post was on Tuesday, March 7 regarding the UEFA Champions League Round of 16 match between Chelsea and Borussia Dortmund, less than two hours before the start of the game.
