The Transport Licensing Appeals Board (TLAB) tribunal has directed popular matatu SACCO, Super Metro, to fire 269 drivers. This is among the conditions set by the tribunal on the company before it is allowed to resume operations.

"The appellant (Super Metro) shall immediately disengage 269 drivers as per the list marked 'SPM7' annexed to the respondent's replying affidavit sworn on 10th April 2025," part of the orders obtained by Viral Tea read in part.

These directives are part of eight orders handed to the popular Sacco on Monday, April 14, just hours before it announced a three-day suspension of operations to comply with the new conditions.

Alongside the 269 vehicles, the Sacco has also been instructed to send 42 drivers with speeding violations to the Likoni Driver Test Centre for retesting.

Additionally, eight vehicles flagged for issues with their speed limiters must be taken to the Likoni Motor Vehicle Inspection Centre for compliance checks.

Another 31 vehicles with inspection-related issues are also expected to be brought in for reevaluation, with full compliance reports to be submitted to the NTSA.

One of the key orders also requires the Sacco to submit minutes and an attendance list from its Road Safety Sensitisation training for all drivers to the NTSA’s Director of Road Safety.

In the meantime, the suspension of the Sacco’s operations—initially enforced on March 18—will remain in effect until full compliance is achieved.
