Maxwell Mmera, the husband of slain Kilifi Chief County Officer for Fisheries and Blue Economy, Rahab Karisa, was hugely affected by her demise as it left a big void in his life.

On Friday, July 21, Mmera opened up on a confrontation she had with her house help which led to the latter allegedly stabbing her to death.

The confrontation which occurred on Wednesday, July 19 occurred after Karisa returned from Europe and revolved around household items that reportedly went missing when she was away.

Karisa had flown into the country and was unable to join her husband right after due to the ongoing Azimio la Umoja anti-government demonstrations that caused widespread disruptions countrywide.

The deceased had threatened to report the house help to the authorities before she went to bed, not knowing that this would be her last night, according to her husband.

The househelp would on Thursday morning, July 20 allegedly attack her employer while she was asleep in the master bedroom instead of avoiding being arrested by police.

"You didn't deserve it, you that cannot hurt a fly, you didn't. And your only mistake being, asking a housegirl who has stolen from you while you were away and mentioning to her that the following day you'd take her to the police.

"The brutal animal instead of just escaping peacefully, wakes up and stabs you while you are sleeping - that was so painful my love, I am sorry baby I couldn't protect you. You just jetted in and couldn't come to me coz of Maandamano, you chose a connecting flight only to die the same night," Mmera painfully narrated on his social media pages.

Mmera noted that he had to keep up his composure for the sake of their children, having to fight the bouts of depression and grief threatening to make him lose control emotionally.

"I regret letting you take this career move (away from me), 7 months down the line I am coming back to a lifeless, cold and dead you babe. We had plans for your comeback, great projects to achieve and dreams of the future, but now what can I say except cry!!!" he added.

The late Karisa's husband further recalled that one of their children was so traumatised by what he saw that he hinted at seeking help from a child therapist, with their other child clueless that his mother was gone.

An anguished Mmera added that Karisa was killed two days before her birthday on Saturday, July 22.

"My childhood girlfriend, my friend, my wife, my mum and the owner of my home - I am gonna mourn you properly later, for now, allow me to handle it, as you've always said" Love you'll handle it, just as always"

"Tomorrow 22nd July was gonna be your birthday, I was looking forward to being in Kilifi this weekend, but here I regrettably am on a weekday," he lamented.

The death was confirmed by Kilifi County Commander Fatuma Hadi, adding that police had launched a manhunt for the househelp.

Kilifi Governor, George Mung'aro, who visited the residence of her family on Thursday, mourned Karisa's death, hailing her as a talented and hardworking officer who had a bright future.

“It is with great shock, disbelief and profound sadness that I announce the untimely death of Rahab Amani Karisa, Chief Officer, and Division of Blue Economy in the Department of Agriculture, Livestock Development and Blue Economy. Rahab was a young, talented, hardworking officer and her future was bright,” read the statement in part.

He further called for security agencies to move with speed to arrest the known culprit to face the full force of the law, assuring that the County Government of Kilifi will work closely with the family to plan for the burial arrangements.
