Kanze Dena, the spokesperson of former President Uhuru Kenyatta, has confirmed that the security of former First Lady Mama Ngina Kenyatta was and remains withdrawn as was done by the Kenya Kwanza administration on July 18, 2023.

Addressing a live press conference on Monday, June 10, Dena denied media reports that the personnel were reinstated 24 hours after their withdrawal on the evening of July 18 at around 5 pm.

At the time, officers from the General Service Unit (GSU) and Administration Police (AP) were instructed to leave her Gatundu and Muthaiga homes and report to the nearest police station, a matter that sent shockwaves throughout the country.

According to Dena, the withdrawal was done through a phone call at the time, and without notice, all but confirming unverified reports on the same that did rounds on social media.

“In fact, we would like to clarify that on July 18, 2023, at 7:00 PM, all her drivers and security detail, allocated to her were withdrawn from all her residences via phone, the claims in the media that personnel were reinstated are false,” stated Kanze Dena.

Before the first recall in 2022, she had a total of 30 officers guarding all her premises combined with the senior most back then being a chief inspector

The former first lady was left with eight officers in total as well as the senior most being a senior sergeant, who were all recalled then.

On February 3, 2023, Inspector General of Police Japhet Koome dismissed concerns regarding the withdrawal of Mama Ngina's security while quelling concerns that the security detail of former President Uhuru Kenyatta was scaled down for the purposes of deployment.

Meanwhile, Dena also accused the government of failing to replace Mama Ngina's vehicles every three years as required by law, revealing that the three Range Rovers belonging to Mama Ngina were issued by former President Daniel Moi and replaced by the late President Mwai Kibaki.

“The three Range Rovers that Mama Ngina has in her possession were allocated to her during the late President Moi and Kibaki’s tenures and replaced accordingly after every three years, the Government of the day has not provided to her with any vehicles, she added.

However, the vehicles have not been replaced as they should be, with one of the Range Rovers rendered unusable.

It was also revealed that Mama Ngina's fuel cards remained cancelled since March 2023 forcing the former first lady to fuel her vehicles from her pocket.
