Former President Uhuru Kenyatta on Sunday, April 9 was spotted attending a church service at St Francis Catholic Church in Nyali in Mombasa.

In pictures and videos shared online, the retired president was seen clapping alongside the congregation in praise and worship and sitting attentively paying attention to the sermons as Christians around the world marked Easter Sunday.

Uhuru was last in absentia for the Azimio la Umoja Parliamentary Group (PG) meeting despite being the chair of the Azimio council, however, he did send apologies for missing the meeting which saw the coalition pick seven politicians to represent party leader, Raila Odinga, in bipartisan talks with President William Ruto.

The talks emerged after Raila accepted Ruto's call to suspend the demonstrations for dialogue over the constitution of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) on April 2.

"In times like this, it is not about who is right or who is wrong. I have always been ready to engage all Kenyans from all walks of life

"In these circumstances and in view of the recent events that led to the loss of lives and destruction of property in the demonstrations in the last two weeks, I urge my brother Raila Odinga and the opposition to call off the demonstrations and to give this bipartisan approach a chance for us to take the country forward," Ruto stated.

In response, Raila called off the demonstrations that were to take place on Monday, April 3 and any that followed, in adherence to Ruto's resolve to look into the composition of the IEBC selection panel.

The former President's name featured prominently as many analysts and political insiders believed he played a huge role in brokering the ceasefire between Raila and Ruto, with many claiming that Uhuru had ease of access to both of them despite claims by the Kenya Kwanza government that Uhuru was sponsoring the demonstrations.

Uhuru's name also featured prominently in the course of the demos. On Monday, March 27, 2,000 unknown goons invaded the Kenyatta family's Northlands City farm in Ruiru, Kiambu County and looted rare sheep worth Ksh70 million as well as destroyed an unknown number of trees.

Three days after, police stopped a similar raid from taking place at Kedong Ranch associated with former President Uhuru Kenyatta at the border of Narok East.
