Watch DP Ruto Lead Worship Song During Prayer Meeting

He had just finished addressing the congregants when he decided to become the soloist song master and take Kenyans through a time of worship.

Deputy President William Ruto took the initiative of leading his congregation by singing a praise and worship song during a prayer meeting held at his Karen residence in Nairobi on Tuesday, August 2, which was attended by senior members of the clergy from Nairobi County.

He had just finished addressing the congregants when he decided to become the soloist song master and take Kenyans through a time of worship.

The second-in-command was a little off key, a slight blunder which he admitted to an audience which was bursting into laughter before he recollected himself and led once more.

Ruto then took it up a notch, adding a bit of soprano to his melodious voice as he led in singing Bwana U Sehemu Yangu, whose lyrics go like this:

Bwana u sehemu yangu,

Rafiki yangu, wewe,

Katika safari yangu,

Tatembea na wewe.

Pamoja na wewe,

Pamoja na wewe,

Katika safari yangu,

Tatembea na wewe.

Mali hapa sikutaka,

Ili niheshimiwe,

Na yanikute mashaka,

Sawasawa na wewe.

Pamoja na wewe,

Pamoja na wewe,

Heri nikute mashaka,

Sawasawa na wewe.

Niongoze safarini,

Mbele unichukue,

Mlangoni mwa mbinguni,

Niingie na wewe.

Pamoja na wewe,

Pamoja na wewe,

Mlangoni mwa mbinguni,

Niingie na wewe.

The original song was composed by Elizabeth Nyambura and has been populated across several churches and gospel music groups as one of the main songs during the time of worship.

That was not the only highlight of the prayer meeting. The DP broke into tears during the emotional time of prayer, and almost broke down when he was invited to the podium to address the audience.

The meeting was called by DP Ruto and his wife Mama Rachel Ruto and brought together some members of the clergy to pray for the country ahead of the crucial general elections week.

The DP put a brave face as captured in a video as he preached the importance of peace during the elections and opened up on the challenges he has had to go through during his campaign trails.

"Thank you for honouring our invitation so that we can have a moment of prayer together. We all know where we are as a country. We know the moments and we know the times and we know the challenges and I requested we have this moment of prayer together because of the weight of the issues that we are faced with in these last days before we go to the vote," said the DP.

"We have many schedules but the bible reminds us to seek the kingdom of God first. Thank you for coming to pray with my team and me. I underestimated this meeting but it has turned out to be something I never imagined."

He also talked about the struggles he has gone through during his time as deputy president and hinted at the differences between him and President Uhuru Kenyatta, which arguably took a turn for the worse, away from his promise of endorsing his junior and living up to the promise he made from 2011 to 2017 during their campaign trails.

The DP has been known to put a brave face but hasn't backed off from shedding a tear or more. He wept on a church podium at the Faith Evangelical Ministry in Karen following the Jubilee Party's victory in the March 2013 general elections.
