Mathare North Member of County Assembly (MCA)-elect, Eko Dydda, has disclosed that he was robbed of his certificate immediately after it was issued to him by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).

While revealing details of his life-threatening experience at the hands of alleged goons, the Vidole hitmaker claimed that he almost lost his life when the goons were unleashed by his alleged opponent.

He added that after he showed up to collect his certificate from IEBC officials on winning the elections, they roughed him up and he had to find a way out.

According to Eko Dydda, his supporters were denied access to the Stima Members Grounds in Ruaraka where he was to collect his certificate, while supporters of his opponent were let in.

“Inside the hall, I found my opponents all charged up. After the results were announced, I heard them saying that their boss (my opponent) had instructed them to ensure I don’t return home, that I was supposed to die and not be given a chance to become an MCA,” he told Nairobi News.

The musician had tried to flee the commotion with his security guard but was followed by the goons who attacked them.

“A group of charged goons came in and attacked us. Some of my supporters came in and defended us and we managed to escape,” he said.

He believed that the whole incident appeared to have been planned since he had been told to park his vehicle outside the compound.

He cycled Muthaiga, Kariobangi and Buruburu police stations but was turned away, the former at the gate. He was then forced to seek help from Ruaraka Police Station in the middle of the night.

Eko Dydda said he did not manage to record a statement with the police and that he has expressed fear for his life after he received threatening calls.

He also revealed that he has been stalked by two unidentified vehicles around his house.

“We had to run away again for safety with my injured guard and hide since it's like someone wanted to get rid of us. I also had to switch off my phone," he added.

His wife, Cynthia Ayugi (alias Galia) noted on Friday, August 12 that she had been looking for the gospel musician but could not find him.

According to multiple media reports, the Vidole hitmaker was being trailed by a group of young men whom Ayugi claimed had been sent to finish him off.

After he was handed the certificate hastily, they surrounded him and his bodyguard and also attacked a person who was filming the proceedings through his phone camera. They let him go upon realising that the footage would potentially draw attention.

The matter came to the limelight after David Muthengi, alias Holy Dave reported that Eko Dydda was missing.

Eko Dydda was vying as an independent candidate amongst a handful of celebrities to have emerged victorious in the elections.
