We Don't Want Tribal Politics- Ruto Tells Kenyans In Jab At Gachagua
President Ruto pledged that he would take responsibility and lead the charge in this endeavour

President William Ruto on Friday, October 25 expressed his commitment to uniting the country, appealing to Kenyans to come together for a common goal. His remarks come as his recently impeached Deputy Rigathi Gachagua is fighting his impeachment in the law courts of Kenya.
Speaking at the Tobong’u Lore Turkana Festival, the Head of State reiterated "We do not want tribal, divisive and dismissive politics. We want to come together as the people of Kenya.”
President Ruto pledged that he would take responsibility and lead the charge in this endeavour. “I will go all out and do my best to unite the people of Kenya.”
The remarks by the President were viewed as a veiled jab at Gachagua, who had been accused of promoting tribalistic and divisive politics.

His aggressive defence of the Mt Kenya region in the national political arena culminated in his impeachment by the National Assembly and the Senate, with this being one of the counts he was impeached for.
Ruto has largely kept off the matter in past public addresses, but today's address may have given many an insight into his stance regarding the ouster of his deputy.
Earlier this week, Ruto's legal team dropped out of an ongoing court case where Gachagua is fighting to save himself from certain impeachment, arguing that the Head of State's decision to join the case was against the law.
They cited a Supreme Court judgement in 2022 that ruled that the president could not be enjoined to any legal proceeding such as the one filed by the former deputy president.
Meanwhile, Ruto pointed out his recent move of appointing a section of leaders from the opposition to form a broad-based government as an indication of his efforts to enhance national unity.
He highlighted that the country would be able to move forward and make more progress as a nation if unity prevailed.
"I made the decision to form a government of national unity by appointing members of the opposition."
"By uniting as Kenyans, we will be able to direct our strengths and energies towards ensuring that we promote the economy, give rise to employment opportunities and get rid of the hunger crisis in the country. That way, we will move forward as a country."
