Woman Rep Survives Accident After Vehicle's Brakes Fail, Overturns

Elgeyo Marakwet Women Representative Caroline Ng'elechei Jeptoo was on Monday, February 26 involved in a road accident along the Moim-Kapkoi road in Uasin Gishu County.

Preliminary reports indicated that the vehicle's brakes had failed, causing it to overturn on a murram road.

Ng'elechei and her driver as well as other occupants had fortunately escaped with minor injuries. Photos seen by Viral Tea showed her Toyota Land Cruiser TZG rolled onto one of its sides in the middle of the murram road and sustaining a bit of damage.

The car was missing one of its tail lights due to the impact of the accident. Immediately after the accident, locals rushed to the scene to help occupants out of the damaged vehicle.

The vehicle appeared to have rolled over a few times before landing on its side. Before the vehicle was eventually towed away from the road, traffic had built up slightly mostly from boda riders and residents who gathered near the scene to witness what had occurred.

The lawmaker, who was elected on an independent ticket after beating the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) wave in Elgeyo Marakwet in 2022, was yet to speak on the accident.

Following the incident, Kenyans were urged to exercise caution while travelling via roads to avoid accidents which may result in fatalities.

Barely 10 days ago, Senator Okiya Omtatah counted himself lucky to survive a road accident that occurred in Kisumu while heading to Busia.

The accident, which occurred around the Ojola area, happened after the trailer driver lost control crashing into his vehicle and throwing him off the road.

Omtatah who spoke to the media after the accident revealed that the trailer hit his vehicle as he attempted to swerve.

The legislator, who was with his driver, survived the accident without sustaining any injuries, adding that the trailer landed in a ditch several meters away.

Narrating the horrific incident, he added that he swerved after realizing the trailer had lost control, noting that he was lucky to have narrowly escaped death.

He attributed this to the safety belt which acted as a lifesaver as it held him intact on the chair thus protecting him from getting injured, even though the vehicle landed on the side of the road intact. 

The driver of the trailer upon questioning stated that the brakes failed to function, forcing him to swerve from the main road, crashing into the senator's vehicle.
