Former Nairobi Governor, Mike Sonko, has claimed that Sharon Atieno, a woman accused of masquerading as a fake lawyer, was released on a Ksh50,000 cash bail.

In a statement posted by the former Nairobi county boss on his X account on Tuesday, October 17, Sonko revealed that Atieno was set free to pave the way for investigations to be carried out.

"Lawyer Sharon Atieno, who was earlier today arrested in an operation led by LSK President Eric theuri and the police has been released has been released on a 50k police cash bail to pave way for investigations to be conducted. She will report back to Capitol Hill police station after 14 days," he stated in part.

Sonko further commended the Inspector General of Police Japhet Koome, in what he termed as the IG respecting the rule of law in handling the accusations, as well as Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Mohammed Amin.

The former county boss further claimed that Atieno has a law degree from Catholic University and that her only challenge was not being able to get funds to be enrolled at Kenya School of Law (KSL) to pursue her pupillage so as to meet the qualifications to be admitted as a lawyer.

''I have personally volunteered to sponsor her until she qualifies fully and completes her law education," he promised.

Sonko also reposted a video shared by Viral Tea on its social media pages showing Atieno being picked up by police and Theuri from a coffee restaurant in the area.

Earlier, Sonko pleaded with LSK to work on a formula that will see those found practising law illegally are accorded a chance to get the required training and qualification, condemning the arrest of Atieno as well as those who have demonstrated interest in the legal profession.

"I am sure there are many cases of you lawyers who are talented but they cannot be lawyers because they lack money to enable them maybe go to the Kenya School of Law," Sonko said in a message directed at LSK President Theuri.

"Some of them might have having law degree but because of their family background, their parents cannot afford to take them to the school of law."

Sonko further called upon LSK to identify the young talented aspiring Lawyers and bring on board stakeholders who will help them achieve their goals.

"These are the future learned friends Mr Theuri, so instead of embarrassing them and having police arrest them and put them in cells...let us find a solution to address this problem."

Theuri accused Atieno of practising law without the prerequisite qualifications as required by law and forged a national identity under the victim as well as produced a fake certificate.

Neither he nor LSK were yet to comment on Atieno's release by the time of publishing this story.
