President William Ruto has rubbished claims by Azimio leader Raila Odinga that the three former Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) commissioners had paid him a visit to his house prior to the announcement of the August 9, 2022, general election results.

Speaking at the Africa Prosecutors Association conference in Mombasa on Monday, January 30, Ruto wondered why Raila chose to reveal the claims five months since the elections took place.

He also questioned the motive of the visit by the former commissioners; Wafula Chebukati, Boya Molu and Abdi Guliye, believing that it was Raila who had invited them over in the first place.

"I was listening yesterday to one of our politicians who was alleging that members of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) went to his house and he is telling this story five months after the act...and he is volunteering this information laced with insinuations that the officials had gone there for something he has not disclosed.

"It begs the question, if it is true, what were these officials doing in your house? At your invitation? Being a candidate. How did you end up inviting officials of an independent body to your house?" he posed.

The Head of State further criticised Raila for using a public rally to convey the claims instead of before the Supreme Court when he filed a petition to have the presidential results dismissed.

"You had an opportunity to bring up this evidence of alleged bribery before seven judges of the Supreme Court, you did not. You have instead chosen to take this big announcement to a political rally," he shot back.

On Sunday, January 29, while addressing a rally at Jacaranda grounds, Raila claimed that Chebukati, Abdi Guliye and Boya Molu paid him a visit, before the announcement of results, and alleged to have evidence to prove that the trio sought his audience and made some requests to him.

"Chebukati revealed that some people tried to bribe him as well as Guliye and Molu. Ask them what they came to ask me when they visited my house. Tell them that I have photos that I can expose them," Raila stated.

He further claimed that the tribunal led by Court of Appeal Judge Aggrey Muchelule was being used as political weapons against former IEBC vice-chair Juliana Cherera and co, adding that he warned commissioner Irene Masit that she would be at a disadvantage in choosing to stand trial, even though she wanted justice to be served.

Raila also threatened to expose Muchelule, Chebukati and Speaker of the National Assembly, Moses Wetangula as brothers-in-law, a matter of conflict of interest.

"Raila Odinga in the 2017 General/Presidential election I was your partner in NASA. If being Chebukati relative in 2022 mattered, it must have equally mattered then. Excuses and blame games too, have limits! Soon they will be a circus," Wetangula tweeted in response.

Raila and Wetangula were coalition partners in the 2017 General Elections.
