Former National Assembly Majority leader and Defense Cabinet Secretary (CS) nominee Aden Duale has become the next Cabinet nominee to disclose his net worth.

Speaking when he appeared before National Assembly Committee on Appointment on Monday, October 17, Duale revealed that he is valued at Ksh851 million.

This includes assets such as goats, sheep and camels. Duale owns 231 of the latter, which he had to value in Kitui County.

“I am worth Ksh851 million including assets, goats, sheep and camels. I had to value my 231 camels in Kitui County. My current source of income, including rental income, is Ksh10 million annually," he said.

Prime CS nominee Musalia Mudavadi and Attorney General nominee Justin Muturi have so far revealed their net worth at Ksh4 billion and Ksh700 million respectively. However, Muturi's net worth raised eyebrows given that he made Ksh400 million in one year.

"I am worth approximately Ksh300 million, most of my property was acquired through bank loans and civil servant remuneration for 36 years. I support a lifestyle audit on all leaders plus an explanation of how all their wealth was acquired and this should not be done in secret #ChatWithJBMuturi," he posted in 2021.

“I have been a very modest civil servant and my net worth is currently estimated at just about Ksh700 million,” the AG nominee said on Monday.

Treat Me As A Kenyan Somali- Aden Duale

During the vetting, Duale issued advice for him to be treated as an ordinary Kenyan and not a mixture of a Kenyan and a Somali citizen.

He cited the profiling by certain individuals in the government of individuals of Somali descent living in Kenya. According to him, Somalis wherever they are, the citizenship where they belong, is where they're loyal as well.

"Treat me as a Kenyan Somali just the way you treat the other communities in the country. I shouldn't have to use 'Kenyan Somali.' I am a Kenyan. There is a clique in the government who have a business of profiling Kenyan Somalis," he said.

The Garissa Township MP further assured that he will ensure that the key mandate of the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) to protect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the republic will stand under his watch and that the KDF will at all times protect Kenya from any external aggression.

Duale On Muhoozi's Tweets Attacking Kenya

On the matter of the remarks by Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the son of Uganda's president, Yoweri Museveni, Duale said that the KDF had no mandate to respond to his comments, which almost triggered a diplomatic clash between the country and Kenya.

"KDF had no role to react or respond to Uganda’s General Muhoozi's tweet about invading Kenya. Kenyans on Twitter dealt with the General," he said.

Speaking to KTN News' Sophia Wanuna on Sunday, October 16, Museveni said that he was not keen on punishing him, noting that his aim was to suppress the bad in him so that the good remains.

He recognised that the African continent has its own issues but not regarding tweeting and that Muhoozi was a good general who only made a mistake. However, he promised that his son would not talk about other countries, even Uganda's politics, in the same reckless manner he did against Kenya.

Duale was the Jubilee Party’s Majority Leader of the National Assembly in the 11th Parliament from 2013 to 2017 and the 12th Parliament from 2017 to 2020, when he was kicked out for alleged disloyalty to Jubilee Party leader, former President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Duale Political Profile

He was originally elected under the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) in 2007 but left the party in 2009 to form the United Republican Party alongside President William Ruto.

He has sponsored various bills in parliament including; The Public Procurement and Asset Disposal Bill, 2014, The Public Service (Values and Principles) Bill, 2014, The Persons Deprived of Liberty Bill, 2014, The Environmental Management and Co-ordination (Amendment) Bill, 2014, The Statute Law Miscellaneous Bill, 2014, The Transfer of Prisoners Bill, 2014, The Fisheries Management and Development Bill, 2014, The Public Finance Management (Amendment) Bill, 2014, The Insolvency Bill, 2014 and The Mining Bill, 2014.

If approved the long-serving legislator will resign to take up the CS role in President William Ruto's administration.
