Engineer Liz Aluvanze was on Thursday, May 4 appointed as the Director of the Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA).

Aluvanze took to her LinkedIn account to share the good news of her new role, which complements her other one as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Kenya Association of Air Operators (KAAO).

"I’m happy to share that I’m starting a new position as Director at Kenya Civil Aviation Authority!" she announced.

Aluvanze's appointment was further confirmed by Salim Bakari, the head of corporate communications at KCAA while responding to a query on the same from Viral Tea.

Her new role, which she has held since the last week of April, will see her handle the day-to-day operations, including the business and financial operations of KCAA.

She will also ensure that business operations are carried out according to previously laid-down rules and regulations and will be required to possess good integrity, honesty and be law-abiding.

Some of the responsibilities Aluvanze will encounter include creating ideas and implementing them to manage KCAA's business operations and affairs, and preparing and filling out necessary statutory papers with agencies and the company office.

She will also be calling the annual meeting of shareholders, ensuring proper records are maintained and kept and making sure that business operations are done according to duties and responsibilities set out in the authority's constitution.

The Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA) was established on October 24, 2002, by the Civil Aviation (Amendment) Act, 2002 with the primary functions towards; Regulation and oversight of Aviation Safety & Security; Economic regulation of Air Services and development of Civil Aviation.

Other functions include the Provision of Air Navigation Services and Training of Aviation personnel KCAA; as guided by the provisions of the Convention on international civil aviation, related ICAO Standards and Recommended Practices (SARPs), the Kenya Civil Aviation Act, 2013 and the Civil aviation regulations.

KCAA's mandate is to plan, develop, manage, regulate and operate a safe, economically sustainable and efficient civil aviation system in Kenya, in accordance with the provisions of the Civil Aviation Act, of 2013.

Aluvanze took over KAAO on September 26, 2022, from Colonel (Rtd) Eutychus Waithaka who proceeded to retirement after spending 25 years at the helm of the association.

She has vast experience as a versatile air transport professional with knowledge and skills in Air Transport Strategic Management, Air Transport Engineering, Regulatory Policy and Air Law.

According to her LinkedIn bio, she also boasts of Client Relationship Management and Contract Negotiations skills with a combined experience of over eight (8) years in the Air Transport industry where she has worked and consulted in various sectors including Air Transport, Commercial, Fleet Development, Engineering and Engineering Services, Technical and Flight Operations.

Aluvanze is a fitness enthusiast with a penchant for living a healthy lifestyle. She proudly acknowledged that taking care of her body is her responsibility and an expression of self-care.

"Liz is an Aerospace Engineer by profession and runs her own aviation consulting company called ‘Skylar Consult’ which offers a variety of services from local to regional operators ranging from commercial, strategy, and operations set up among others.

"She is also a stylist and personal shopper and recently created an aviation-infused fashion blog called Liz Alu," explains a 2019 feature of her on Tizi Talks, a fitness blog run by Loise Machira.
